I’m wondering when to do the 3rd topping on each step I used the 3rd node now I want 8 mains can I just top right away at the first node?

Pictures of your plant will help. It’s as much a science as it is an art. Really depends on your space and what you want. I usually wait a week or 2 in between and top at the 1st node for topping #2 and #3.

I think that if spread was far enough apart not to bump colas rising up sure that is doable.

Just my opinion but I think you are safe once it "appears" you are. If can can get in there and cut without damaging anything else, I say YOLO.
