Not saying what is or what isnt but its also propaganda for grow stores to feed you info so they can raise prices to make more coin. Not saying this is the case but if you are gonna look between lines....look between all the lines. Foxfarm ocean forest soil iv used for like 10 years. So batches a little hotter than others and its been that way from the get go. Matter of fact when I started to use there soil 10 years ago I was paying like $25 bucks a bag, now I pay $15 out the door. Not sure where these stores are that raised prices but the shop I go to hasn't said anything to me about foxfarm and I go in there and talk shop for hours at a time. I can tell you dirt on advanced and there sales men and a few other companies.....I Havnt heard anything about foxfarm.
If its a publically owned company and a merger or sale happened you will most Def be able to find the information you seek with a simple search online. Just like car companies they might not advertise when something happens but you can find the dirt if you look hard enough for it. Again I'm not siding I'm just giving my two cents ~SMF~

Seen this while doing a search on the matter, posted 11/28/2011.

There are a couple rumors floating around that Fox Farm had been bought out by the evil miracle grow corporation.. this is false.
Here is the email I received from Fox Farm:http://asset2.invalid.com/smilies/smoking.gif

Hello!

Thanks for your interest in FoxFarm! Yes, we are still a small, family-run business based in Eureka, CA, and no, we have not been bought out by any other company. We are also still committed to producing the highest quality soils and fertilizers available. We have no plans to change the way we do business, so rest assured that when you garden with FoxFarm products, you are using the highest quality products around! Thanks again for your inquiry, and please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns. Cheers!

Had me ready to dump my fox farms and find a new brand, already thinking of switching over to A1's soil when it's available. I guess i'll continue rocking it unless i find out otherwise, i would never support a company like monsanto.

pot growers are some of the most paranoid conspiracy loving people on the planet. ocean forest is down to ten bucks a bag in so cal and their bottles are less than ten bucks a quart. their booster salts are down to twenty bucks. the soil isn't as rich this year but i don't think Dr. Evil is to blame. at $10, i can add my own ewc and humus. my guess is that ff is losing their market share and is trying to appeal to outdoor growers looking for agro prices.
this reminds me of the ridiculous rumor about tobacco companies buying up california land for commercial pot farms.

If Monsanto bought Fox Farm, Why would they raise prices? There best bet would be to lower prices and move quantity not quality, that's what corps do, if quality was a concern we would be called Sweden or something...:D

Can ya trust a guy whose last name is Crook? Hmmm.

You'll know if Monsanto bought them out. The soil will be loaded with bugs and diseases and the overall quality will drop. Supersoil recipes and homemade compost would be a great alternative....and cheaper.

Black gold imo has a more consistent mix and better pricing, Willy just had the benefit of having property on Fox Farm road and being in the Humboldt Nation, it used to be a better dirt about 5-7 years ago and before that but the last few years have seen much expansion and lack of quality with the FF, imo

prices of fox farm stuff have dropped here in CO. Ocean Forest $10/ bag. And IF Monsanto had purchased FF, why do you assume that the prices would rise? Seems more likely to me that prices would drop. But whatever

Wait, so your saying this doesn't happen? I've gotten 2 bags in the past year that came w/ pests I've never had before, I can't speak on the quality of the nutes in the soil but I definitely see bugs in the soi, I got this new beetle big enough for me to stab w/ my scissors that were living in the veg room.
No offense to mr. A Crook, as judging a book by it's cover is wrong, but I'd never hire a guy w/ a name like that for product support, kinda like naming your son something like mike hunt and expecting him not to get made fun of. I mean can you expect A Crook to not be a crook? lol

Fox Farm has always produced inconsistent, contaminated crap - their products are about as 'organic' as old school Miracle Grow. The real question is not who owns it, but why are people still using it? It is in my opinion, literally the worst soil and nutrients one can use...

I used to live in Humboldt right down the road from the Foxfarm facility, I know the owners, and I would be shocked to find out that they would sell out to Scotts. They were very dedicated to doing what they do the "right" way, and very proud of being a community-driven grassroots start up that made it big (relatively speaking) by putting out a quality product that got popular by proven results and word of mouth among the (very demanding and fickle) Humboldt gardening community rather than slick corporate advertising campaigns. They were always anti big-farma and I highly doubt they'd sell their soul to Monsanto. Plus I can't find any actual verification of this occuring other than on unfounded message board rumors so I'm chalking it up to bullshit.

Maybe if you compared it to other soils like Roots Organics and stuff like that, but I wouldn't call it the "worst soil and nutes one can use" because I bought soil from Lowes and Wal-Mart for $4-$6 a bag and that shit sucks compared to OF and HF. Oh yeah, and there nutes are not the best, but its not the worst either. Some of there liquid nutes work good and increased my yields. Just look at there ingredients list on the labels of there nutes and soil, yes the nutes have some salts, but it has alot more organic material then other stuff out there.

I know you are a great grower and I've seen some of your threads, but just because you don't like a product it doesn't mean its worst in the World.

@Majesty- I don't know where you buy your soil, but I have not seen a price hike in Fox Farm products and it seems like the owner of the hydro store you buy from is screwing you over.
