something is not right thats for sure... man you have been waiting a long time. i think you started before i did, i wish i knew what to tell ya... if you don't have any pins started you could wash off the casing and re-soak them... with all the spraying you have done i wouldn't think they're drying out. I've never had any luck with that chunky verm.

maybe try to wash off the chunky stuff and soak in water for another day, then grind up your verm in a blender or coffee grinder to get it finer, then try using that for a casing. the finer stuff is easier to evaporate which is what triggers the fruiting.

another option you have is to grind up the cakes with cheese grater and mix it in with pasteurized coco in a mono tub... it would be coming over to the dark side but i really feel tub growing is much easier than cakes. and you already have the pressure cooker and all the other gear, just a few differences is all.

i mean man i have never tried this bulk substrate stuff and with guidance i have some chubbies growing in under two weeks of fruiting...

.
.
i would really try making the verm finer that way you could put a fan on for twenty minutes or so and evaporate all the casing evenly and quickly.

just be gentle with the cakes... they bruise easy and shrooms won't grow from the bruised area.

I can't help much with pf tek, I failed my only attempt at it. I dunk my tubs only 30 minutes sometimes and seems to work fine.

Stony your tub looks good. Keep a light dew on it though, sub looks a bit dry. You'll be picking very soon.

That shot gun fruiting chamber looks small. Are you sure you made it to specifications? If not you will have trouble keeping the humidity and air flow in sync.
This is the correct way to make a shotgun fruiting chamber. It is also the correct way of using your shotgun fruiting chamber. I find a lot of people fail using sgfc (shotgun fruiting chamber) because they don’t understand the basics. Even in the mushroom community.
Look over this and try to understand it best you can. If you have any questions I’m more than happy to help.

I’ve been relying on this book for my main info.
Unfortunately the authors info is 50% different then what others are telling me in the more technical avenues.
For instance this book does not mention you need holes in the bottom of the fruiting chamber and also specifically tells you “do not directly spray your cakes”.

Mush growing info is constantly growing. So info that was essential is trash a few years.

You need the cycle of evaporation and humidification going on without holes on the bottom neither is happening.

When you do mist mist in the air and let the droplets sprinkle down on to the cakes. Direct misting can cause bruising.

If sgfc is made correctly your only job should be to mist the cakes when needed and making sure your perlite stays hydrated.

Be sure to read the misted cake project link that is provided in the link I sent. It helps a lot when trying to figure when the correct time to mist is.

i also had success with my first bulk grow... i came home from a pig roast last night, checked my tub and had a picnic all on my own!!!

i only harvested half of it and left the smaller ones for tonight.... and the other half is just as much. i kinda ran out of room in my dehydrator. now that's a new problem i never had before!!!

i had no clue that a tub yielded this much.... freakin yahtzee!!!!!!!

man i couldn't be more pleased.... i've never seen this many shrooms at one time!! we're gonna have one hell of a party!!!!

I put the pipes in the holes and dunked it for about a half hour, dumped it out and put the loose polyfill back in. is there anything else i need to do to prepare for the second flush?

That time again.

Cluster there so thick it pulled up a chunk of sub.

Some proof of how rugged mycelium can be.

This is end cuts of shrooms with small chunks of sub rehydrated.

Notice the mycelium is colonising the cigarette butt lol. These isolates are getting better as i narrow it down.

Thanks man, i had a good teacher!!!!

that is crazy with the cig stuck in there... i wonder if the myc will clean the filter? i read that it's good to colonize in your garden soil because it draws out heavy metals.

but yeah that's what my dehydrator looked like too... i thought about making a large bin but now i'm gonna hold off seeing what the small bin produces.

.
.

this is proof that anybody can do this just by reading page three of this thread. and it could be done rather economically too... i spent more money than needed on stuff but that's me i like to do that with all my hobbies.

it was also easier than i ever thought... i shy'd away from this method for a few years because i thought it was to difficult. if anyone out there is reading this and are on the fence about it, just go for it... it's pretty straight forward and fun to grow!!!

Looks good.
Only thing I can think of you might want to change is if you have your cakes on aluminum still cut the aluminum to exact size if possible. You want as much fae and humidity running up that cake as possible.

Using the roadkill method how much of the syringe do you put into each hole?
Can I still use the left overs in the syringe?

i always divided it up evenly the best i could... if it was five jars and one ten milliliter syringe, then i would aim for .5ml per hole. at four holes per jar that would be 2ml per jar.... but sometimes it would be tough to have that kind of control in a glovebox and not being able to see well. just make sure the spores are mixed in the solution really well.. shake it good!!

and yes, if you have leftovers you can load em up heavier if you want. or save the leftovers for another time.

Done, cakes are starting to show accelerated progress at this point.
Biggest mistake I made is using pint jars instead of 1/2 pint. Slows progress immensely.
I’ve got 2 syringes left. I’m on the hunt for 1/2 pints to finish up with pf jars (canning jars are extremely hard to find rite now).
I will be moving on to tubs as soon as I successfully harvest mushrooms from pf jar technique:)
