I have been conflicted on this because the info is terribly conflicting. Some argue they will flower no matter what & it doesn’t matter the light cycle…. But that proved to slow the growth dramatically so I guess I’m switching back to 18/6. Fingers crossed…

Here is an up close of one of the Autos, started 04/01. Thoughts?

You may have created a bit of confusion in the plants so to speak......don't get upset about it, you say it's your first grow, you'll have many, many more, and you'll do your best to see this one through......

Think about an auto for what it is genetically. It's a plant that has been bred with a certain amount of ruderalis in it, Ruderalis basically being the "3rd variety" of cannabis besides Sativa and Indica. Ruderalis is a variety that comes from a very northern region/climate with a very short growing season. On one hand it's not particularly good. On the other hand it's quite hardy and makes up for a short growing season by flowering very early. In fact, it gets such a head start on trying to finish early that it's programmed to start flowering not by a change in sunlight, but by its own internal clock. The irony about going very far north (or south) is that while the growing season is very short, there's actually more sunlight on summer days, it's just that the sun is weaker. If Ruderalis had to wait for a certain amount of darkness, by the time it triggered flowering it would be too late.

So when breeders started crossing with Ruderalis they found that they could tap into this internal clock phenomenon and create varieties that would grow, and then after a few weeks or so, start flowering without having to give it a 12/12 cycle. An Autoflower. But......that doesn't mean you can do anything with an auto, give it any light cycle, or bounce around. To properly give them what they're programmed for......summer for a ruderalis usually means 16+ hour days......giving it that kind of light cycle is basically what they're used to.......it's best not to radically change this system.

I'm not necessarily getting the science 100% here, I'm not a ruderalis/botanist.......but this is basically how autos work. And since it has this built in internal clock programmed in, sewn into the genetics, if we toy too much with that internal clock we can mess with the cycle.........the best way to get the best performance out of an auto is to give it a smooth, stable ride for its short life so it can best do what it does. Giving an auto 24hrs of light could confuse it, switching to 12/12 could confuse it, and changing the light cycle could confuse it.

What should you do at this point? Probably the best thing is to do what you did.......go back to 18/6 and keep it there. Put it back on its natural cycle, and see how it responds.

They look pretty good. Autos finish short because they're quick. You need to get them across the finish line. At the very least they'll continue to flower for you, and ripen.......you'll be alright. At best, they'll pick up a more accelerated flowering with 18/6 and they'll finish even better.

Looks healthy, but I don't like the bud structure -- way too leafy. This is probably a genetic thing and not something you've done.

Make your life easier and go with photos from established breeders. When you have a tent, autos don't make a lot of sense. They are not easier to grow than photos and the pollen chucking hacks, like ILGM, Crop King and Pacific Seed Company, will sell you any shitty seeds they come by. They're not tested, the way real breeders test their wares.

So the one photo that was in the tent with the autos had to go back to 18/6 light with them as I switched them back. That was when I originally posted this… now we are showing some signs of deficiencies and I’m wondering if I should let it live the rest of its life outside ?
Would living the rest of the summer have negative effects on the little bud it is producing?
(this plant went through it at the start of its life)
What’s your recommendations?

I'm not experienced enough to tell you what is wrong. It looks like some kind of burn...but I honestly don't know.

I’m wondering if it’s a phosphorus deficiency.. I’m in the same boat, this is my 1st grown & I’ve put this plant through it to start with. It has been dropped, the light cycle changed to 12/12 then back to 18/6 to try to help the autos..

So I’m just not sure what to do with this plant. She’s about to have to go outside because I’m going to have to use the tent for drying…

It's light stress, sometimes less is more. With 18 hour days, autos can get by at a lower ppfd. Raise your light height or reduce it's intensity.

Agree with this, be careful to much light leads to fox tailing. All those nice buds will turn into long stems with popcorn nugs if you don't back the light off.

Just curious who do you recommend? I've had success with atlas seeds photos but the autos are super finicky I need a better spot to get my outdoor autos. Even seedsman NL autos were pretty much crap. I got 1 good plant out of the atlas. Then the atlas facefat autos, only one germinated and it's a slow grower. I brought it back indoors and it's in perfect conditions still growing slow as all get up.

I have no personal experience with autos, but I would go with well-known breeders like Mephisto or Ethos if I had to choose.

There are a lot of good breeders. I mentioned Ethos, there is also Anesia Seeds, which have some unbelievable strains. I also like Irie Genetics a lot.

What kind of weed do you like? What effects are you looking for?

where do you get Ethos from? Something Powerful for pain and appetite mainly. Sedative.
