Hi, don't know how I've stumbled onto this site but here I am.... I am as new as new can get to growing cannabis and was hoping to learn as I go. By reading all your posts, questions and answers I am beginning to understand more and more each day..
I started my first ever grow 55 days ago... I chose a beginners Special Queen 1 Auto seeds, using Fox Farms soil in a 4 gallon pots, Also Fox Farm Trio nutes. I currently only have a Spider Farmer SF1000 LED ( Will upgrade before my next attempt ). I do NOT have the elaborate setup most of you have, I am using a closet to grow in for now but I think they have done pretty good so far. I did top these plants after the 4th node at about week 3 or so and since it has grown like crazy. One plant is currently between 3 to 4 ft tall and I have pistils all over the plants, but they don't seem to be fattening up just yet. ( Dunno if they even will )... Been watering every 2 to 3 days when the soil drys up a couple inches down. Hopefully someone here can take a peek at give me some advise, Like I said, I am new and open to any and all of your expert knowledge LOL Do these look to be on the right path or no? Also, If I am doing anything wrong as far as posting on the site please let me know.... Thanks !!!

Looking amazing!. I also use an SF-1000 and believe it or not its TOO much power for my small space.,..I wouldn't knock the SF-1000 so early, upgrading may not be an upgrade unless you have a very larger grow space and are growing more than two plants. Your light is great !

SF-1000 too much light for my space, upgrading to more light will only make things worse (for me)

Thank you.... I am not knocking the light at all, but I do plan on growing multiple plants in the future.... It has got me to where I am today and at a relatively small investment, I am happy.... But my plant is pushing 4 feet tall and my bud sites look nothing like yours do... You have some big ole buds growing, Nice !!!!

Though there is infinite knowledge at your fingertips here on the web, it’s still nice to have the paper back version of the basics to thumb through! My brother had the “bible” from years ago! Lots a great info in there. I think it has been updated, and maybe even some of the info might be obsolete or proven “different” at this time. It still has the great basics with pictures (which is really helpful).

Welcome to the Farm! You have done a great job so far! Thats a nice looking plant!

Thanks !!! I think I have heard mention of the Bible in the past, sounds like it would be very helpful.... ot knowing much about growing just yet, I am just worried that something is wrong by the looks of my pistils, they don't seem to be filling out yet... today is day 55 since they sprouted, so almost in week 8 of a strain they said should be ready to harvest in 12.... I realize that all grows are different, but being so new to this, I am 2nd guessing myself as to where thes girls should be at this stage....

I get that! Im newer and trying to get my foot hold. It’s really easy to second guess yourself for sure! I think the more you know the better : ) you’re off to a good start by just wanting to better your knowledge!

55 days since the plant sprouted? Or 55 days from when she started “flowering”?(flip date) Either way a lot can happen in the last month or so of flowering : )

55 days since the plant sprouted !!! I can't believe she is almost 4 feet tall already. It is an autoflower, and I started seeing pistils at the nodes between weeks 3 and 4, which from what I read is the beginning of the flower stage. (Am I wrong?) That would mean I am about 4 weeks into flower.... I was expecting more dense buds at this point, but what do I know... I also have read that even on autoflower grows, some people have gone from a 18/6 light cycle to a 12/12. Wondering if that would have any affect or if I should just ride it out longer...

Ok yeah that can change some things as far as bud size and end result beyond just strain. I know very little about the autos and have zero experience growing them. If you feel so inclined… you could make up a journel thread with the “from the start to now” and im sure those who have auto experience can give you a better idea of where you’re at. In my opinion I think it looks ok and youll be really surprised at how much more growth in a month will happen! : ) it looks very “sativa” strain so that can give you more of a “popcorn” bud appearance as apposed to the more indica large whole baby arm colas! lol. What strain is it exactly?

Allot of the books I bought I felt were slightly out of date, missing certain information on newest lighting and products.
I think most information can be looked up on the internet as is as or more complete answers then most books.

I've looked at several books and have been disappointed for the same reasons.

The main problem with the Internet is too much information that is often confusing. That's probably due to there being many ways to grow cannabis successfully.

A wiki dedicated to growing cannabis ("WikiWeed" perhaps?) might be nice.

If even one cola on your plant is higher than the rest, it will become king of the mountain... The highest cola becomes the top priority for the plant because its closest to the light.. So, you'll see a few big colas up high and all the lower smaller colas will suffer. The trick it to keep all colas at equal height... This makes everything equal and huge...This is a very effective method for indoor growing.

My plant shown above was grown in a 1.5 x 1.5 x 2 foot grow space and came in at around 3 zips with less than 100 watts of light. Read up on using a trellis net to train the colas to equal height... Or you can read up on the Mainlining/Manifold technique. I grew the plant above Mainlining and that's why all the buds are the same and very large...

Here is an example of a trellis net grow in the same space... Note: they are not all completely equal in height, but much better than if I hadn't used a trellis. (Mainling makes cola height management much easier than a trellis)

Early flower with SF-1000
