I use my rice cooker for RSO.
I'm interested ... can you post a link to this unit?I did that in the beginning but went to a table top distiller, less dangerous (fumes and such) and I can reclaim about 80% of my solvent. That thing paid for itself in probably 4 batches of oil.
My apologies @MIGrampaUSA, I was in a hurry when I posted that and didn't look close enough. I checked and was able to just delete that post with the wrong link.
I actually got this one because of the temperature control. Sorry about that!
Don't sweat it bro, glad to help any way I can.Forgive me for my ignorance about this device ... what are you using for your solvent? Something like Everclear?
Don't sweat it bro, glad to help any way I can.
Yes, you can use Everclear. Personally I use 99.9% Isopropyl Alcohol and take extra steps to make sure I get all the alcohol evaporated off. Some folks advise against this but I am pretty certain I get all the ISO out before consumption. I use a magnetic stirrer and at 181F and you can see the alcohol on the surface of the oil if there is still some there, it's like a sheen from an oil slick on the road after it rains. You can see it. I just stir at 181F till that sheen is gone and I'm good to go.
I've used Everclear but I don't get as good of a return on the oil as with the 99.9% ISO. Everclear is also a lot more expensive.
Not sure on the science behind it bro, I just know I get more oil using 99.9 iso. And I need a lot of oil, lol.I'm not a drinker so I could be wrong, but I believe with Everclear in Michigan, its 150 proof so 75% alcohol. I'm assuming the higher the water content of the solvent has an influence on your end results?
I think using something like this would be legal in Michigan. It's not considered a hydrocarbon based extraction, is it? So would you infuse your cannabis in the alcohol, filter out the plant material and then distill out the alcohol leaving near 100% pure cannabis extract? Then the magnetic stirrer and the 181F is the final step to refine the residuals from the distillate? Not sure on the science behind it bro, I just know I get more oil using 99.9 iso. And I need a lot of oil, lol.
What I take is definitely what would be called RSO. Basically it's the essential oil of Cannabis. It's known as RSO because of all the brave work Rick Simpson did bringing this miracle drug to where we are today where I think the US is close to being over 50% full on legal, including the state where I live.
Not sure what that is but I would assume no.It's not considered a hydrocarbon based extraction, is it?
Exactly. So would you infuse your cannabis in the alcohol, filter out the plant material and then distill out the alcohol leaving near 100% pure cannabis extract?
There is actually two parts to this last step. When the distiller shuts off automatically, there is still quite a bit of alcohol in the oil. So I run that at 181F or thereabouts, until. the major bubbling stops. That is the alcohol evaporating out at a high rate and it can overflow the beaker just like a pot of water that boils when its too full. Once that stops, I raise the temp to 240F for 45 minutes to decarb, converting all the THCA into THC. After that, there is still a small amount of alcohol in the oil. This is where you can see the "oil slick" on the surface as I mentioned before. At this point, I bring it back down to 181F and let it stir at about 3-400 rpms. I do this until I can no longer see alcohol on the surface and then pull it all in to 1g syringes, which is my daily dose. Then the magnetic stirrer and the 181F is the final step to refine the residuals from the distillate?

Good for trim too.It looks like the perfect way to turn excess buds into extract for edibles.
Just did this recipe!!!!I'm an absolute amateur when it comes to oil and edibles. But I will say that the last time I tried I followed an instruction guide using my instant pot/pressure cooker. The bud decarbed perfectly and was a set-it-forget-it kinda deal. If you got one of these kicking around give it a shot.

Everclear is available in Indiana at 190 proof works even better- and yes water container affects quality in my opinionI'm not a drinker so I could be wrong, but I believe with Everclear in Michigan, its 150 proof so 75% alcohol. I'd have to do more research regarding ISO. I've read a bit from both camps on the subject ... but not enough to form my own opinion. In a sense its like Rick Simpson Oil.
I wash all trim and left over bud even roaches ! All for edibles nothing goes to wasteGood for trim too.
You're welcome bro, anytime. Make sure you get the one with the temp control, they sell both with and without.
And way cheaper than source turboGoing to get me a distiller!
I had close to the same unit decades ago for my reef tank.
They did not come with heat control.
The combo of control and distill is killer!
Thanks bro!
Very similar to the megahome i bought years ago. Has a 350 watt element for their essential oil modelMy apologies @MIGrampaUSA, I was in a hurry when I posted that and didn't look close enough. I checked and was able to just delete that post with the wrong link.

Just did this recipe!!!!
Thanks again @Shaded_One
it actually was super easy using the insta pot and that recipe. I infused 1/2 cup coconut oil with 10grams (recipe calls for 7g) and then used that in a fruity pebble rice krispy treat kinda thing!!!!
Every step turned out great and as expected. Can't wait to try product tomorrow.
Infused oil just smelled great and had a great consistency.
broken up buds, not powder but fluffy (i liked how the recipe worded that lol)

unrefined coconut oil

recipe ingredients, i forgot to take picture of infused oil, i was so excited being my first time that i just used it so quick in the recipe. i used a reusable type cheese cloth, and placed in that mason jar of coconut oil and back into the insta pot after decarbing the weed from another jar in the insta pot first. Used a recipe that uses fluff over marshmallows to make this vegetarian (marshmallows have gelatin but fluff does not).

end product that must sit for 2 hours, but i'm going to bed anyways. so this will be for tomorrow or the weekend.
It doesn't look like it, but it turned out great i think. it already has a very good firm texture.
The stuff on top is some silver sugar crystals that show more in the light. just a little jazz.
