I have an outdoor plant and it's my first time growing period I'm not at all sure of the type of plant but I'm wondering about topping and pruning and when it should be done

I let mine get approximately 18-20 inches tall to top
(Cut main stem with scissors)
at the same time I used fim process and trained lower branches

Highly recommend bill ward on you tube as he demonstrates procedures ...total walk thru
