Working on a big grow container project, it has changed a little from first thoughts, but the sketch drawing is my latest thoughts. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Equipment so far. 1ton Heat pump Mini Split, evap to be mounted in Flower room. 6” inline ACI intake blower with filter box, will draw air from outside ambient space. 12” inline ACI exhaust blower with charcoal filter and gravity closing 12” exterior louver. 1 ion frame EVO 10 light for flower room (will get another) Figures passive air vents from the “Lung room” into the Veg Room, and a passive vent from Veg room into Flower room for intake air. I also have a 920 liter dehumidifier to be mounted in the flower room. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

Sounds like a good start for your project, what kind of information are you really searching for? There is a lot of ways you can grow with this space. I would make the flower room 6' x10 and utilize that 1.5' for a cloning and germ rack or closet that way you can start a good rotation, unless you have another spot for germination and clones. Or put the door facing toward the side wall and make a mother closet in the space at the end. Idk. Like I said there is a lot of ways to go depending on how you want to grow. I would add a fan to each top corner as well to help circulation and prevent dead space for heat and humidity to build up. How much did the container cost? I have been thinking about getting one delivered

What are your goals? What region are you in? Is it a trailer or conex box? Exact inside dimensions? Water drain? Insulted? Are you going to need heat in winter, or more cooling in summer? Water source/supply? Storage for nutes/supplys/misc? Work bench for mixing nutes, soil etc? What medium; Hydro/soil etc. What about power? Anticipated needs? (hint-put double what you think you are going to need.) Security - Location...Can you be seen going in and out, multiple times per day or night? light leaks to outside? How much vertical height?

I don't expect answers to all of these (the more the better though), just giving things to ponder

I was going to build and sell these at one time, when legal home grow was still in the wild-west days. I used to have several Sketch-up files, but they are long since gone.

Oh, Welcome to the Farm & Merry Christmas!🎄🎅

So, I am in the Reefer Business (Transport Refrigeration Repair) I sell, Rent, Repair, customize etc equipment like this. I have never popped a seed in my life. I was approached by a local that posed the idea of putting a container together for him to rent to have a rdwc setup in it so he can grow. We talked pretty heavy about the idea, I jumped in head first and the communication has pretty much ended. I imagine he is exploring other ideas now, but no worries, I’ll tread on. The original thought was one open space, wall to wall it’s 7.5’ wide so doing something 6x10 is not ideal, but not to say I cant build out a 1.5’ wall and use that cavity for something. The front exterior wall we built to close up the opening where the refrigeration unit was, It will be spray foamed and the mini split condenser and 12” louver for exhaust will be mounted in it. I have another wall we built that will be the interior wall of the grow space, the mini split evaporator will be mounted to that. And the 12” charcoal filter has a recessed space where it will sit in the upper right corner of that front wall. The 12” inline exhaust fan will be mounted behind the wall so it won’t even be seen from the grow space (there will be some kind of access panel to get to it if needed).

I went to a grow store last week to buy some soils and just see what info I can pick up and the guy I was talking to asked “where are you going to veg” I was thinking it was all going to be done in the one large space, and he went on to say well if you have a separate veg space, you could just start them in there and slide them into the flower space. So it got me re thinking the original plans. And me not really knowing what is all involved I need help from people who do. Basically what would be the most ideal killer setup you could dream of that works like a dream. I figure I will finish it out, play around with some grows and if I get board with it, I can sell it. So far I have in mind to do an all AC Infinity setup, I have the controller AI+, will be doing CO2, Auto XL Pro Kit will probably have to get another now since trying to do separate rooms.

My plan with that pre hung door you see in the pictures I first posted, that door will be inside the container door, so once you unlock and open the container door that door will be there to easily go in and out. So it’s not just wide open. To keep out ambient light, contaminants etc. thought of maybe an air curtain too, but might not have enough space to make that happen without looking completely goofy.

This container I bought at auction, cost me somewhere around 6500-7000, I don’t know I have a bunch of them and they range in sell price, but then you have to transport them. 20ft reefer containers are rare and hard to come by, so they bring more money than a 40ft. You can a lot of times buy 2 40ft reefer boxes for the same price a 1 20ft reefer box. I have the equipment to move 20’s but not 40’s but if I want a 40 I can have one delivered in a couple hours.

I’m a sponge and I tend to go off the deep end with things, so I’m trying to get the insight of real world use, ChatGPT has helped with the project thus far 😂

My goals are to use this to show what we can do, build someone’s dream. And make a functional top tier “mobile” unit.

Central east cost grow zone 7-8

This is a 20ft reefer shipping container (connex box) outside dimensions 8ft x 20ft x 8.5ft tall
Inside dimensions 7.5ft wide, 7ft tall, probably 18.5ft long with my front wall I put up.

There are 4 drains in floor, one in each corner.

Yes insulated reefer containers are built to hold down in the -40’s very well insulated and tight.

For heat in the winter the mini split I bought is a heat pump, so it will heat as well as cool. One of my ideas with that is discharge the exhaust from the container into the condenser coil of the mini split. Thoughts for that are free heat in the winter and cooler air supplied to the condenser in the dead of summer. We are in a 4 seasons area and sometimes you get all 4 seasons in the same day 😂 it’s a 12k BTU 1 ton. Plenty enough capacity for this space.

Plan is to plumb it to have a water hookup from the outside, I also have an RO system to install inside where there will be a water supply tap.
I bought the autopot xl pro set.

Power going to put in a 100amp panel will have a single power cord, and inside will have multiple outlets and dedicated breakers for larger equipment like the mini split etc.

There will be no light visible from outside container. We are in the country, plenty of space to place it discreetly.

Merry Christmas! Thanks for your input!

Gatdammit man!.... that was my dream setup I had in mind back in the day. Plug and play 100amp mobile units. Set up using recirculating drip in rockwool slabs (semi commercial)

For real though bro, you've got it going on... whachu need us for? lmao

For real world knowledgable insight and recommendations. My plan is to have remote monitoring through the AC Infinity equipment, as automated set it and forget it operation (obviously I know that is not 100% hands off, will require human input). But want it to be where you can leave it for some time without worry of a disaster.

looks epic.i am allsoo interested how did you manage heat
On thing I might have to do is put a smaller ac or mini split, terraform or something in the L-shaped area, the main fresh air intake for the whole container will be in that L-shaped area, but may draw in too much heat in summer months for the veg room. Because the evaporator will be in the flower room, it will only maintain temp by thermostat in the flower room. The whole container will ventilate through the vents between the Lshaped area and between the veg and flower room, but now that I’ve decided to section it in deferent rooms the single mini split is not really the answer. I could get a dual zone mini split too 🤷🏻‍♂️

One thing im running into right now is my flowering plants are a few weeks out form chop, i have some vegging i want to flip that are in my veg room. And the solo/seedlings are also in the veg room. I want to flip the vegging plants in the veg room (a pre flip if you will to being in the flower room) im needing to make a space for the littles that are still on 20/4 🤷‍♂️ nothing that couldnt be solved with a small tent or box or something i guess : ) just some thoughts!

awesome idea! ✌️

is just a peace of metal dividing you from the outside or wil you be doing proper isolation? because those vans get crazy hot in the summer
This container is one that would have been used to transport frozen or temp controlled goods. They are very well insulated. We work on the refrigeration side of these containers, the units that are in them are capable of maintaining down in the -20F, the containers are in the R-30 insulation range.

I did buy one of those large 6x12 ACI humidity dome kits for little seedlings, I will have more room to play with in that Lshaped area, I can put a work bench in there and start in the small dome and move them into veg room when too big for the dome.

Thats cool! Yeah a work bench would be awesome!

This is the free workspace I would have in the red, if I move the door to the veg room, that would give me space to put a bench, cabinets, that is where I plan to have the auto pot reservoirs, I can always shorten up the flower room and veg room a foot each and give myself more work/storage space. The left side container door I plan to leave closed at all times, the right container door when you open it, there will be a 36” door.

NICE project and container how are you gonna vent all that space? looks like it will be the ultimate in Grow rooms!!
I have an ACInfinity cloudline T6 for intake, will be in the red area we’ll call that the lung room/storage room. I ordered 6 8” AC infinity light trap vents will put two in the wall from the lung to the Veg room, and 4 8” vents between the veg room and the flower room. Inside the back right corner of the flower room I have a 12” charcoal filter going to a ACInfinity cloudline T12. The T12 exhaust is rated at 1604 cfm, the whole container is right at 1000 cubic ft. Exhaust should never have to run at max. Probably somewhere in the level 4-6 setting.
