Hello everyone, as the title says I need some help with LEDs. I posted a while back about magnesium deficiency and purple stems, found out my lights were way too intense. I turned them down and my plants turned green and starting growing immaculately.

Having said that, I struggle to find correct lighting heights and intensity. Right now I have a 450w led in my 4x4 veg tent that is only set to 10% at around 20 inches from the canopy. If I go any higher than that my plants start to show the exact same symptoms as before.

I know vegging plants don’t need a ton of light, but only 10%?? Doesn’t add up based off my prior experience. Lastly, my plants always grow a little tall and lanky instead of bushy. No matter what strain. They all grow similar and I am trying to get to a point where my plants node spacing is tighter, bushier, and still green and Lucious. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can provide pictures if needed. Thanks!

How are you growing the seedlings? If they start out tall and lanky then this usually carries over into veg

please post make and model of your grow lights ..
Plants stretch if the light is not close enough , the upper leaf's will close or fold up like a envelope if the light to close or making to much heat for the plant.

Sativa strain can not handle the lighting like Indica..... Big time truth when UV-B lighting is being used ,
Purple stems to me is a micro nutrient issue..

Set your light at 65% at 30 inches.
I find this to be the magic number.
See if it works for you.

It's a balancing act...light, watering, and nutrition. I put around 35W/ft² of LED in my flower tents, hang the light as high as I can, and manage the dimmer so my uppermost fan leaves are flat, level, and vibrant green. Any deformation (taco-ing, twisting, edge curl, etc) or other colors, and I turn down. I haven't found a PAR level that works for every grow.

There are lots of ways to manage lights, so this is just what's worked for me.
