i have a 2x4x5 tent with two 300 Mars Hydro. I have them hanging from the hangers provided to a ratchet. The clip is to the top.

Any tricks to safety shorten the gap between ceiling and light unit?

And most importantly, how close is too close?

Hindsight I wish I went taller.

Check the manufacturer recommendations for that model. It’ll be online if you don’t have the paper copy. However, I originally set my LED 24” from the canopy. They grew taller during flower so they are probably 16” from the canopy now. Plants were doing fine so I didn’t raise it back up.

Zipties through those hangers and around the top construction of your tent. Filter between them to suck the hot air out.

Here’s what I did, you can use a ceiling wire #9 to fashion some clips to use instead of the cables. That will shorten your light to ceiling measurement.
