Haven't ever had a mother plant or taken cuttings before and tired of buying cuttings(clones). I want to keep 1-2 moms to take maybe 4-6 cuttings from every run.

Would this 125W floro be sufficient enough for one, maybe 2 at most mother plants?

If not recommendations please. I'm trying to keep the expense under $75 for a new light, this one retails for around $50.

I dont know much about lights Neb.
I do know that Floro light will not travel very far and still be effective
if you let the mothers get more than 18inchs tall, The lower growth will suffer..
But depending on the Strain....topping..and training...you could have a pretty good mother at less than a foot tall.
and probably get 6 cuts from her.

Thanks Ken, good advice. Maybe it's a bit too weak cause if I decide to add another mom or need more clones I will have outgrown this. Maybe better to start off with something a little more than I need that I can grow into.
Speaking of growing into things, I wish I kept my Phototron that I bought from High Times in High School:D. That would have kept a mother pretty good.
Now they got them all tricked out!:eek:WTF?

Bump

Someone in cyberspace???
Anyone know of an affordable (under $100) CFL that would be good for keeping a mother or two? Phototron was a joke. Obviously for the money you could build a way better setup with a HPS and tent. P.tron would be cool if price was around $200-300.

Please, please, PLEASE do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THAT HYDROFARM light. I have that exact same setup (with a 200-watt bulb in it). The light footprint SUCKS. It's tough to get it where you want it, and the penetration blows. I currently use it to veg 1 plant in a 2-gal bucket and a seedling in a plastic cup. It's barely enough for the 2 of them.

In a nutshell, I hate this light. I just scored (off CL) a seedling rack with 3 4ft/4 bulb T5 fixtures for $100.

Try to find yourself a T5 or MH fixture and avoid that Hydrofarm light like the freakin' plague. CL is your friend in this case...

I'm in the process of filling my mother tent with T8s. My goal is slow and steady vegetative growth with lots of pruning. Bansai!

I use a 68 watt CFL light I bought at home depot in a clamp light I hang with a screw in plant hanger screwed into my ceiling to hover it over my plants. Also, there was a thread here that used to tell you how to keep bonzai mother plants. I'll see if I can locate it, it would be pretty handy right now.

Thank Greener, for the heads up, I think you're right about CL(craigslist), took me a sec to figure out what CL stood for, lol:). I'll look for a T5 or T8 there.

Thanks Tat, I think I'm going to pick up some vert. lights for secondary lighting in my reg. grow room, currently just have a 600w with hood. Greener got me thinking and I don't think that will cast a big enough light footprint for 2 moms.

Do you use just one 68w bulb for one mummie, or do you just the 68w for a couple of plants? Do you use it for a cloning lamp aswell?[/quote]

i grabbed a dual 250w ballast off craiglist, runs two 250 watt bulbs. if you got space, a couple reflectors on a light mover would work wonders

Purpstickipunch, I have three mini-mother plants under 1 68w lamp and I use smaller wattage CFLs for clones (26watt). I made a 2x2 reflective folding enclosure. I just put around the plants and hang the light in the middle.

Here's some visual:
this is where I keep my moms, that bulb is a 68w CFL (those are not my mother plants but they came from those plants)

Here's my other area, it's veg and clone as you can see. I've got seedlings under 1 light and my newly made clones in styrofoam coffee cups with plastic cups over them under another.

Walmart sells cheap shop lights for 10 bucks, found 2 with mildly bent reflectors, got for 5. So, I got a 6 bulb t8 set up for 20 bucks, plus 2 scrap pieces of wood and a few screws. Mixed 6500 bulbs with a few regulars and it fills my small closet with light.

Will it do production cloning? Not enough horsepower, suit my needs, yup!
