Hello everyone! I’m new to thcfarmer and I’m currently in my second grow. It’s a Northern Lights feminized autoflower in a 5 gallon fabric pot. I used a 50/50 mix of Fox Farms ocean forest and happy frog. I started using fox farms liquid trio at half strength after about week 5. I’m currently in week 9 of the grow and the plant is in late flower. Leaves started turning yellow around week 7 and began to spread. Can anyone give me any advice?

Greetings, fellow grower! Everything was going good up to the point your unused nutrients started to accumulate in the soil. Do you have an EC pen? The fix is to do a heavy watering done with a slow trickle, and let it keep trickling and periodically collecting and checking the water running out until the pen reads no higher than 1250 ppm or 2.5 EC. Work slowly and in increments so you don't overshoot your target and bottom out the EC and displace too much microbial life. The leaves aren't going to fix themselves, but we want to stop the burn from reaching all the way to the bud and it's already knocking at the door of your sugars, yo you want to act immediately and not put it off. I'd be curious to know what that EC number will climb to but I have a feeling it could go to 3.5-4.0 before you see it start coming down based on the plant's appearance. This is one that gets many of us off guard, and sometimes we don't catch on until after a couple years how much water volume you want to be working with. I've been doing this a few years now and I still rely on a pen to give me a rough idea of what's going on in the soil. I don't trust pH pens though. Too prone to losing calibration. Drops are always reliable.

Thank you so much for the input! I don’t have an EC pen but I will definitely buy one. Do you think it’s too late for this plant? Or will I have to possibly harvest early? I couldn’t even guess how far I might be from harvest anyway. This plant still looks WAY better than my first one and I really think it was going great till about week 6 or 7.

Hey buddy, welcome to THCFarmer! Your Northern Lights looks great for a second grow nice structure and bud development. The yellowing around week 5 is pretty normal as she starts pulling nutrients for flower. You might want to ease up on the Fox Farm trio and add a bit of cal‑mag to stabilize leaf color. I’ve grown that strain myself and it finishes beautifully around week 10–11. If you ever need premium seeds or nutrient packs, I’ve got some solid options available feel free to reach out anytime.

Thanks man! I appreciate that!

Even after you stabilize the EC there's already a hot load in the plant's circulatory system so it will burn a little more even after the fix. It looks very hot but not absolutely fried and I think it'll work out okay. So you're grabbing an EC pen for checking your salt dilution and you can get a $10 pen off Amazon to do the job, just stay away from cheap PH pens. The other thing you are going to want is a good magnifying glass or jewelers loupe so you can get a real close look at the shade of the trichomes to determine when it's ready to harvest. They start out looking like clear dew drops and they're ready when the majority of them look milky/clouded with some of them amber or honey colored, with very little clear ones left.

Appreciate your update sounds like you’re keeping a close eye on the plant’s progress. Once you get that EC pen, you’ll notice a big difference in consistency. I’ve got some premium nutrient mixes and calibration solutions that pair perfectly with EC and pH testing gear if you’re interested. They help stabilize feed levels and prevent salt buildup, especially around week 6–7 when plants start showing stress. Let me know if you’d like me to send details or pricing for the kits.

Yeah you might want to get a PH pen, there’s a really good post from aquaman I believe his name is talking about growing in coco, it’s very informative and you’ll see people talking about this post all over the forums, I’ll basically tell you the just of what people told me i just finished my first grow so your a bit farther out then me already being on number 2, I was taking levels of everything everyday and it was draining. Your plant/s will tell you exactly what it needs but you have to listen to it, you don’t have to check PH EC everyday of what’s coming out unless there’s problems. I went from checking output of ph everyday to doing it one every two weeks. Be sure of what your putting in and less is always better then more you can add more you can’t take away once it’s in there unless your flushing and there’s alot of mixed opinions on it. Environment is also a big factor so make sure your on top of your grow area keeping everything up to par.

light stress and incorrect feeding,. you don’t need to be ph’ing using that soil,
