I am going to start a really small grow in my closet 3x3x4. I have a 100$ to spend on lighting. Any ideas for a full time lighting system? I know with CFl's you have to have to bulbs to get different spectrums of light. I just need lighting advice for this small area.

Look into T5 fluorescent lights. You want them to be close to 6500k (blue) for veg and 2700k (red) for flowering.

Is 100 your total budget, or just what you have alocated into lighting?

Its more important to have a complete system than 1 aspect thats "really powerful".

$100 on fluoros should be sweet. Can pick em up pretty cheap and 2nd hand.

pick up the biggest 6500k light ya can find and spend the rest on 2700k ones just make sure ya have good ventilation because not alot people mention but Cfls do put off some heat and in small spaces it builds up fast, i have problems with it myself. goood luck

I got a 4ft 6 bulb t5 ho slimstar. U could do pretty well with that in that space. Grab three grow and three bloom bulbs and u would do OK. I only use it for veg and autos but it would do u proud if u kept the plants short. Good luck bro!

...here's a little something you can put together for very small money, i got mine at a discount builders supply house so mine were closeouts and very cheap, i bought 4 of them that day but if you had to you could pay full retail at Lowes or Home Depot which would be around $20.00, ...the splitters run between $1.50 and $3.00 depending on where you get them.

...all my bulbs where 23 and 26watters because they are cheap and easy to find, often available in 4 packs for less than $10.00 and if you look around i'd bet you you'd find instant rebate forms that would bring the price down to close to a buck a bulb, plus, you can buy them as you can afford them. (mix the spectrums, get some 2700K bulbs and some 6500K as well, mj does best with a balanced spectrum)

...if you go this route you should try to save the money you won't be spending on bud until you have enough cake to buy some proper equipment.

peace, bozo

Those were the first lights I ever used. U can absolutely use those and u will do fine with them. Make sure u have some ventilation though.

...oh yeah, you are right there, ventilation is very definitely necessary, CFL's are a great place for a new grower to learn their chops but they very definitely generate some heat.

...and ridgeline, don't forget circulation, you need air movement within the space too so you'll need a small fan blowing on the plants and a fan sucking stale warm air out of the space.

if 100 bucks is your budget go to ebay and get yourself a 400watt hps the best bang for your buck

I got my CFL's at Discount Bldrs. best prices. Less than $10 ea.

Can I screw those splitters into my hanging light and have 2 bulbs in place of one, just that easy?
