New idea??? Call it, "bottoming"???

There is likely already a name for this but, if so, I'm not aware.
When one wishes to manifold a plant, and there is a larger than desired distance between leaf pairs, repotting deep or top dressing with a lot of soil is a good way to get that first main pair low to the soil where it is easier to start the manifold and end up with a low growing plant. A little off the top and a buried pair of leaves or two, after removing the leaves and giving rooting hormone, gives a lot roots and growth energy right?
Anyway I call it, "bottoming".

Burying transplants to shorten the legs is definitely a thing. Learning that was an "a-ha" moment for me early on, when I hadn't figured out how to have the first node as low to the ground as the plants I was seeing online. I've usually seen "bottoming" used to mean chopping off half of the roots or root ball when transplanting.

Bury the stretch, bottoming, ect.

Did that with both my outdoor plants.

Dug the holes, strip off the lower branches, and buried them deep, all the way to the hardpan. Actually...one of them has two branches still attached to the trunk, that are buried in dirt. I plant on mounded soil, to facilitate proper drainage, and promote more root growth from those two branches.

I won't know how well it worked, till after harvest, and I can pull it and look at the roots. But I can tell u it improved the growth of the limbs, compared to the others above ground. They should have their own roots. Like two separate plants, but still attached, instead of cutting and making clones.

Just a experiment I wanted to try...seems to be working to some extent, as u can see . It's the green bulge on the bottom left of the plant.

Guess u can call that...Bottoming out.

I do this with tomato plants. Tomato plants can grow roots out of any part of it's stem. Its a good way to establish a massive root system early on. Doesn't work quite the same for cannabis though it can help anchor them. They don't have the insane rooting ability of a tomato.

Ye you should be able to bury it the same way you do clones. I've also read some people bending the stems all the way down and burrying them with the top end sticking out, like you would root a pumpkin plant.
Although burrying too much at once can cause infections or rot.
Tbh i only bury them up close to the cotys at the first repot and then leave it as is.

works the same i would say cannabis gets better roots than tomatoe. i forgot to take a photo from my hydro tomato this year but all the roots that come out of the stem are super thin.while cannabis makes them fatter.

Heck yeah man! It’s a great tool for the tool bag! : ) just got done in the shed doing this with some stretchy seedlings! Six of my outdoor got the “bottoming” this spring upon up potting into their 25gal pots
