Long time no post.... Had too many weather related issues, ended up losing all but one plant. She's a fighter..... I even lost half of her limbs..... If it was still whole , it would take up the entire box.
I gotta admit , I failed at my first attempt to grow in water.... I switched this plant into a soil mix I made up of soil (duh) , perlite , the hydro clay rocks (I'm medicated and can't remember the name ) , some foam pellets towards the bottom , and a layer of marbles fir a base . After a week and a half or more , of sitting in hibernation , she woke back up and is now starting to form fruits....
I'm going to try the bubbler set up again , after we move into our own home in the following year. I'll be able to set up a more climate controlled area for my babies that I won't have to worry about unexpected visitors . As it is now , I explained the big box in my garage as an unfinished deer hunting stand I was building , but lost the funds to finish and my hunting spot due to the flu BS..... Was the only thing I could think of. When the landlady comes by , I just unplug one big cord to shut down any noise coming from the box. My wife knows how to do it too , just in case .... Luckily my landlady isn't too nosey . She has only opened my kitchen to garage door once in 7+ years. Never looked inside, just opened and closed the door.
I'll update this thread as the fruit goes through the finish. I'll start anew in the soil dept for my next grow....
it's been a struggle, hang in there. impressed with your determination.
the switch of grow medium was a big decision, incisive, impressed again. i have had multiple failures myself, been there, done that - well, not what you've been through.
now that we've crossed that bridge - nurse as well as you can these plants back towards better health. these plants are typically quite hardy, take a lot of battering - of course it affects your yield/quality/appearance, but you can recover (given time, ofcourse). push then through flowering phase, to harvest. not to rush it through, but to get some results, to get some buds in your bowl. also, such rotation gives you a chance to start afresh with new batch/crop.
i'm not sure what's up with your DWC - you've put in much effort, and it seemed to me you were on the right path. don't get discouraged, like you did by switching to soil mix, try to find that which suits your growing conditions. you can always revisit DWC like you have planned, and things will be more smooth next time around. maybe you can explore other hydroponic setups - flood & drain, TFT, NFT, coco, etc. leave it alone for a while, concentrate on bringing these girls home.
i reckon soil mix generally is the most forgiving grow medium.
Pics taken every Friday night at 11:30 pm..... Each post will be that weeks pics , so I'll have a week by week photo collection of this plant finishing, after all it's been through. It should have been finished MONTHS ago...
Been busy with life.... This is the last of the Mohicans.... Started out with 6 in a bubbler. After months of issues and 5 dying, I switched this one to a soil mix. After a few weeks , it found new life , and has been enjoying it.
With everything going on in the world , my funds have been tight , like with everyone else's.... I'm currently only using Tiger Bloom feed and Humboldt's Golden Tree supplement..... Feed once on Wednesdays and once on Sundays.... All the other days , it gets just 20 ounces of tap water.... Seems to like it... I also added a supplement led light and the plant LOVES the extra light..... Buds are growing tighter/thicker in just a couple days....
Hoping to harvest in a couple weeks.... The crystals are still clear , and just starting to fill....
yup, hanging in there. yup, push these thru to harvest. get some into your bowl & start afresh with new batch. then you can put these experiences behind you. good for the soul. you'll do better next go.
Well tonight I did the deed.... I starting cutting off buds and branches. There is still a few little nuggets on the tree , but tiny... I don't know if they will keep growing because I've always pulled the whole plant. Can I go back to veg light cycle for a few weeks and then go back to fruit cycle ? Will the plant keep growing?
The cola weighs in at 16.9 grams ,fresh cut... Not bad... Got a dozen or so at 6-7+ g's... A bunch of popcorn..... It's all good. I think all in , probably about 2 1/2 to 3 ounces. I couldn't find my good scissors so I one of my regular ones... 1/4" wide at the tip, so I couldn't get in there close to trim . And my bad eyes and arthritis don't help .... And I'm glad it wasn't all 6 plants now cuz my back wouldn't have held out long enough to trim all that....
I'm gonna look into the switching back to veg thing in the when I wake up, but if you have the info that would be awesome of you to lay it down.... I'll damn sure pick it up....
