Hi all - I'm new here and have been happily finding lots of good and interesting stuff so far lurking on the forum.

I just started my first legal MN grow in zone 4b. I'm super happy to follow along and learn as much as possible.

For my first attempt, I'm growing outside in 10gal pots filled with a blend of mostly compost and peat and fertilizing with Drammatic One and K. I currently have six plants out in a low tunnel that supports a light dep tarp to knick 2.5 hours off our current day length. This evening will be round four of that commitment.

I'll get some photos posted asap of my setup. Keep growing everyone!

Here's what I have. L to R, it's three LegendOG x GGlue #4, one Lemon Cookie and a pair of CherryAK x Gelato.

We've made some solid progress this week. I have not forgot to cover them up yet and 5 of 6 appear to be clearly showing they are female. A few pictures of my garden.

Well, things took a dramatic turn. 16 days into the flowering and I see the Legend x's each are showing serious herm, the lemon cookie also looks sus and I stopped searching the AK x's this morning out of dread. I didn't find anything obscene, but my buddy's each with the same genetics (from seeds) flowering inside tents are sadly saying everything hermed on their end too, even the AK x.

Now i can focus on controlling the PM on my buttercup squash. And, I had a nice mater harvest this morning after topping those all last week. I reused the foam packing from my new grow lights to hold them all!

I also setup a new row for an autoflower attempt next year.
I'll try and start a new grow journal once i get going inside this week.

I found the nuts on the Cherry AK x. I was looking too low, they pushed out higher compared to the legendOG x. I almost lost an eye there.

I'm gonna ferment this.

Fermentation? Saurkraut or Kimchee or? I think I would be looking to find an authentic Thai soup recipe.

Not for me, I use grass/weed clipping fermentation for fertilizer.

My coworker would think that is a waste...he is from Thailand, his family back home grows. Quite the culinary culture...I am curious, were all your seeds from the same source. I have been reading about the chemical processes involved with feminization and hermification. I am changing my mind midstream...i might decide to pursue rodelization. Breeding techniques is high on my "to learn" list

Thanks folks. I did get through the "Growing like a Viking" thread, that's a good reference, and i will surly look back on it again.

We do Thai at home. Fresh preemie top garmish might be the way. You thinking for the flavor, or effect? I was thinking flavor initially, maybe a bittering agent, but you could dial in your temps super easy with soup, so good idea! Never much cooked with canna outside of butter.

I purchased the seeds from Rootseller Seeds out of CO. I had 2k fem Cherrywine CBD seeds a few years back through him that were spot on, so this was a bit of a kick in the pants. I really learned a lot, so I'm moving on.

I have some cuts, labeled PMZ or PME? I'm 90% it's Pomegranate 60% Mango and not sure at all on the last letter (or even ifs there is a letter). Anyone have any insights on possible strains for that?

I see gardens like this and it makes me wonder how I grow anything at all....

Chaotic .... is the only way I can describe how I grow, other people call it "wild", LOL!

Thanks a lot folks, gardening is my biggest hobby, you're kind words are appreciated. I've been part time truck/CSA/market veg farming for 24 years now. I'm really excited to finally apply some effort to grow something to truly impress my wife, she's a big fan. When we first met I was basement growing and that really sealed the deal. poor girl, getting trapped like that.

I asked today my Thai coworker friend about the soup recipe. He was born in 1962 and came to the USA in 1977. He told me that he is not a cook in his family but then continued in telling me what he remembered. The cook would take the lower part of the plant...the branches, the leaves, any little buds and tie them into a bundle. This was added to the soup. Before serving the bundle would be removed. He was not sure what it did to the flavor. I asked about the effects. He told me that the bundle would help stimulate appetite. It was prepared often for when someone who was infirm or elderly and had lost the desire to eat. He also told me that he felt a little high after eating this.

I was thinking to myself, water boiling is not warm enough to convert THCa to THC. But also, I was thinking that his feeling of high was probably real. But it might have been not a THC high. The happy feelings caused by food in those years and the support and goodwill of being surrounded by caring family could have all contributed the euphoric feelings during his childhood that he associates with cannabis. And then also there are alway the magical intangibles that we do not know yet.

I am thinking that his early exposure to cannabis was probably with one of the lost landraces. I really would like to grow something that could help give the feeling of the experience that he cherishes.
