So first time attempting to grow anything. Thought I did enough research but I’m not sure what I am seeing. Noticed some small black dots on a couple of leafs, that ended up turning a light tan color (thought maybe it could be a cal/mag deficiency so I added some cal mag to the 5 gallon bucket). Growing in a dwc and using fox farm nutes, with distilled water ph’d to 5.8. Temps 75-80, RH 65-70%

Is this lead septoria or some sort of nutrient deficiency? Any insight would be appreciated.

I think it will be fine if you stop using nutes, looks like lockout/deficiency. It should be fine with just water and hydroguard at this moment. Hope you get some other advice. Happy growing!!

You should want to let the first two single leafs starting to turn yellow before you use Nutes.

It looks like nute burn. In hydro you are going to have to back the nutes off on a veg in the buckets.

You want the medium (pellets) wet but you don’t want the roots in the medium soaked all the time. You want the water touching your medium and the air bubbles splashing up.

Once you get roots dropping out of the net pot you want to lower the water just below the net pot and not touching the pellets. Let the air bubbles splash the pellets and keep them moist.

Keep the water level away from the base of the plant. Looks like you need to drop the water level as I see bubbles in the picture reaching surface of the pellets.

If you don’t slowly vamp up your nutes, starting with tap 150-200ppm and up weekly, small increases, she will burn.

She is in veg in a DWC, take it easy on them nutes.

Ooo I'm not sure. Someone here will know. Good luck on your grow!
Thank you!

it has a drip ring that is squirting water onto to medium. Should I dump the water and run a clean bucket? When you say tap, do you mean tap water??

I would swap and use tap water, 6.0 Ph for promoting best root growth. Give her another week or 10 days of just water.

If you add nutes, do it gradually. Give it time to recover because nutes are a stress.

What is your targeted fees cycle? Are you trying to go aggressive medium or light

Ok thank you so much!

Use a root enhancer/vigor product from start to end of stretch phase, when growth stops and bud and trichome production begins to push. If you don’t have a PPM/EC pen, highly advised for hydro. First grow I would use a ppm reading in the light nute range throughout your first experience.
The key to veg in hydro, in my opinion, is backing down to light if your starting veg in the buckets and pellets. If you want to push nutes quick and heavy for your cycle, start in rockwool and transfer to net pot w/pellets under and around the rockwool. Starting in the rockwool can be easier to achieve acclimation to nutes than in the hydro bucket itself.

Water temps will be an enemy if not in 68-75 range. Although they can get to 80 and just slow some growth. Hot air has less oxygen to send to roots.

Was started in rockwool and has the pellets on top and bottom. When I first put it in the root was touching the water. I have a ppm pen but not sure how to calibrate it since I don’t have the solution

By the stage she is in, probably 1 maybe pushing 2 weeks old from sprouting? I’d still have her on water until day 14. Then I’d throw 350 at her for 2 weeks. Then I’d throw 450, 550, 700, 700, 700, 650, 650, 650, Weekly until you’re ready for ripen. You can flush 1-2 days pure water Phed and be good in hydro.

Yeah she’s almost two weeks from sprouting.

Would Great white suffice? Thanks for your
Not familiar with that, sorry. I saw someone else advise that the clay substrate shouldn’t be soaked. That’s great advice!!! You want the roots to grow down to the water. Happy growing!!
I always used the SLF-100 to keep my water perfect…..

It’s a game really, but if you’ve pushed her to burn, she isn’t going to like many changes to the nutes going up. I made a lot of mistakes going ham early and they didn’t like it thereafter and didn’t like me vamping up nutes until week 5 of veg. Be slow and easy in DWC veg. You can not swap water at this time until you get roots actually using your nutes. So any nutes you use pre net cup root drop, is kind of a loss if swapping out good water with nutes that were never used. Managing water temps could be the only reason you swap this early.
