Hi everyone,

I am starting my first grow with 15 plants in an 10 x 15 basement room. I have a few questions, the basement is unfinished and all the wood is exposed, including the floor joists and support beams. I have included a pic to show the wood that is exposed.

The question I have is with all that exposed wood, should I paint it with Kilz mildew resistant primer, sheet rock everything or panda film everything to prevent the humidity and moisture from rotting the wood and cause structural damage? Will the gaps between the floor joists trap warm moist air? I am worried that all the humidity and moisture will cause mold and structural damage to all the exposed wood. I will be using the flo n grow hydroponics system by titan controls.

Another question I have is the ceiling height is only 7 feet, will I get decent yields from the low ceiling height? Anyone have good experiences with flo n grow hydroponics system by Titan controls?

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated,
Thank you

welcome to the farm! loojs like you have couple options, i would def use kilz primer,i would keep rafters exposed so you can hang lights, so when you raise to your highest setting, your lights raise up in between rafters or as high as possible. you can also drill a bunch small wholes in rafters to venilate across ceiling, definetly going to need rh meter, thermometer, whats your set up,venilation, lights, medium, ect.? i think you can def use the rafters to your advantage, even gain som inches back if you can get set up rite. whites a great reflective color to begin with. welcome if need anything else, i can help u out man. holla in the am when i wake up.

welcome aboard chubbybuddha... i grow in a basement and i'vve got the same floor joists. i cover mine with clear plastic. you will have to adapt your grow style to acommadate the low ceiling.

Thank you for your reply Power OG, I want to run a closed system with 4 air cooled 1000 watt lights with central ac and supplemental CO2. The air cooled light hoods might be too big to fit in between the rafters. I will be using the flo n gro flood and drain hydroponics system by Titan controls with hydroton growing media.

Thanks for your reply Mogrow, did you have any problems with humidity issues like mold and water damage to the wood? Did you have problems with hot humid air getting trapped in between the floor joists? How tall are your ceilings and what grow styles worked best for you?

I use a grow tent just for the humidity and off gassing/smell that happens during flowering..

Grow tents are pretty cheep on e bay. Well worth looking into.
