Completely new to growing... This is my 3 week old baby. It's been on the window sill getting 18/6 light and I don't know if it's how it should be at this stage?

What and when do I need to prune? I've got some nutrients coming in the next few days - is it too early to feed it?

So far I've been topping up the water only when the top soil is dry (currently every 3 or 4 days).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Looking good.

You don't necessarely need to prune, that's gonna depend on your set up on what you try to achieve with your plant.

i would probably up pot her in the next week or two with this growth vigor and rate and start feeding veg nuts another week or two or three afterward.

Is that the only light it's gonna get? Ya know they can and will sometimes flower at 4wks. I wish you luck but don't get shocked if it does.

oops i was half dreaming while reading the thread title and didn't notice that was an auto was thinking it was a photoperiod, as galgrows said they should flower rather soon.

and you should feed the flowering regimen a week or two after transplanting after it start throwing preflowers and first pistil on tops, the sooner your transplant to bigger final pot with auto the better.

That's the only it's been getting but I bought some grow lights a few days ago.

I was thinking that I could place the plant inside a cupboard and use the grow light on it's timer - would that be a better option?

Also if it starts flowering as early as 4 weeks, is that an issue? Or does it just mean a lower yield?

Sorry if I'm asking stupid questions, this is a first for me so I'm still trying to work out what I should and shouldn't do!

that gonna depend how powerfull is your light as compared to how long it get sunlight and how well it exposed to light from the window

most auto usually start to flower 4-6 weeks past germination, in soil yield is somehow proportionnal to how vigorous is your growth on start up and pot size to a certain extent (bigger root ball can sustain more bud growth at time), strenght of light it receive and distance of the buds from artificial light

It's this one

So I've place it at a window that's SE facing. It's been getting direct sunlight from sun up (currently around 5am when it's high enough, until around 1pm.

From 1pm the sun starts heading over the house so it's them getting indirect sunlight.

I've just up potted it today (really hoping it's going to be ok from the move)

such light are good enough for seedling and early veg but far from being powerfull enough for veg a larger plant or flowering.

you'll need a much more powerfull light for flowering to achieve good results.

for exemple have a look at:

(seen from your amazon link that you seem to be in uk other way there's also some .eu or . com portal or more depending your locations to avoid extra custom cost)

(some menu link to the various lights series seem broken on the spiderfarmer uk portal so here the direct links to each series)

https://spiderfarmer.co.uk/collections/led-grow-light/sf-series-led-grow-light/
for the SF series, smaller models should be enough for one plant

G Series Led Grow Light - Spider Farmer UK

spiderfarmer.co.uk

SE Series Led Grow Light - Spider Farmer UK

Spider Farmer SE series, led bar design with Samsung LM301B diodes. High efficacy up to 2.9umol/J. Uniform PPFD distribution and good heat dissipation. Dimming daisy chain, easy to control, perfect for vertical growing.
spiderfarmer.co.uk

another brand for you to compare, i would just avoid the TS series with that brand and would opt the the FC series with samsung or bridgelux LED models

LED Grow Lights 归档

Mars Hydro provides the best LED grow lights for indoor plants, more efficient and professional, promising year-round healthy growth and rich harvest.
marshydroled.co.uk

another brand available in the uk:

Products

PHLIZON is a direct-to-customer LED grow light manufacturer with more than four years of experience.Elevate your experience with our top-rated plant light solutions.
www.phlizon.co.uk

for 1 plant 100W to 200W square shaped panels should do the job

there's more affordable brand available without huge custom cost if your outside the UK

same light from the window only while enough for veg might not be enough for flowering if you want to achieve dense and compact buds.

you could have used a bigger pot that one is still rather small to sustain lot of bud growth. But that could do the job for a not too big plant, smaller pot just require more micro-managing with feeding and watering and won't sustain lot of bud growth with soil.

Most people will work with 6L to 15L pots with a vigorous auto and depending the set up.

( not enough light result in smaller, airy and larfy buds )

I would take it out of that terracotta pot and put some holes in the sides to help with airflow around your roots..and make sure it can drain , or get a fabric pot off ebay.

yeah very good point, you usually want a pot with at least drainage hole bottom of the pot to allow run off to get out and prevent overwatering.

@HerbalEdu @carlosescobar

Thanks guys for your advice, so in summary -

Up pot again to 6L +
Make sure I've got enough drainage
Get a better set of lights
Place it in the cupboard

I feel there may be a little trial and error before I get some results but I'll post once I've got something to share!

you might also need some ventilation, at least passive intraction, and an extractor to renew the air and vent hot air and humidity out of the cupboard.

If you have room for a tent that could be an easier option than customize a DIY cupboard, they usually already have holes for ventilation, stuff for hanging the light etc.

@HerbalEdu so a week later and this is what she looks like... I've fed her biobuzz midweek and today I'll be up potting as you guys suggested.

I'm looking at the grow lights you sent me links to (thanks) and will invest.

In the meantime, I've put her into a cupboard with my current lights (the ones I sent you the link to) on full spectrum, I'm not sure what light level to set but have put them on the highest setting and set the timer to 16hrs (it's the max it'll go to)...

Any thoughts on do or don't do from what I've written?

looking good, but tad bit stretchy, and i think leaves could also be little bigger but that could be due to not enough light.

try to get a more powerfull light as soon as possible, your really isn't much powerfull (entry model is 10W only and other models from the link you sent are not much more watt either not sure wich one you got)

actually i would leave her in the window with direct sunlight and turn on the light over her when you no longer get direct sunlight to supplement indirect light.

also 16/8 light schedule is fine for veg that's what i m doing.
