how do i know when i should start drying?

if you could take a better close up pic you can get some good opinions from us,hard to tell from that shot.but it looks big and nice :)
what part of the world or how far into fall are you in might help also.usually when 95% of the pistols turn colors from white to red or orange its done .but I go by the trichome colors and look for about 25-30% amber.for my outdoor stuff I don't chop em down until they get at least 1 hard frost and the leaves start to turn colors and fall off.

get a loop or microscope, go mostly amber trichs for couch lock or 50/50 cloudy /clear for a more head high. Looks nice, good luck. And dont forget, the dry an cure also needs as much effort as the grow itself ;)

looks like you have lots of green hairs still, meaning the bud is still growing.
wait till most or all of those have turned red or fallen off.
And check for cloudy or amber trichomes with a scope to be sure its ready to harvest!

can you get a better close up at least? just going by hairs it is difficult to see from that far out
