Stupid name? Yes. Great Smoke. Hell Yes!

Honestly the names that get me are the ridiculous gangsta like names. Phonetically spelling or abbreviating words is for texting and people who can't read, not for naming pot. And yet, I'll buy (and now grow) that shit and smoke it without complaint.

Most names are given for certain reasons.Green crack was given that name because of its addicting smell and early samples proved that the high didnt last long.Similar to crack cocaine. Its all a matter of opinion so its hard to say something is stupid because you dont understand or have the aptitude to agree to disagree.

In the end, it's just a name. Ultimately what really matters is how it smokes. But what would be nice is if there was a standardized naming convention and cataloging system. Then you could have a proper scientific name that would be universal world wide and the the "street name" which is what we currently use, and to be honest, leaves a lot of subjectivity on what you're smoking, where it came from, etc.

Lastly, before I get shot down for this idea, remember, a standard system is always optional. One thing Pot Farmers have no shortage of is out of the box thinkers and rebels. It's just my opinion, but something like this would help farmers answer their most important question: How do you grow better Cannabis?

Peace,
HT

the saying og kinda morphed. it was original gangsta now it don't always have to mean gangsta. when you hear phrases like og chocolate or og pineapple the just mean original 1st on the seen should get their respect. words have away of doing that. c-99 means Cinderella 99% so there is alot of thought to that. and what if g-13 actually stands gor G(goverment)13(the 13th letter of the alphabet M for marijuana) g13=goverment marijuana. green crack name is fitting it almost has a plastic smell also. if you ever cooked crack or smelt it being burnt you'd know the smell. alot of times the name just fits the weed. if weed smells like catpiss why the fuck would you name it roses?

i read about a strain called "herojuana"
http://www.marijuanareviews.com/og-herojuana-reseda-discount-caregivers-1707.html
that's just wrong, man.
we have enough narcophobs in our society, no need to generate more reasons for them to hate on the good weed.
weed must be separated from the other illicit drugs, hence this strain's name bugs the s... out of me

Yeah, yeah, keep complaining, but remember there's a non english speaking world out there, i'm sure 'cos i live in it and man, i sometimes think some breeders dub as pc programmers. There's a kind of regular aesthetics though. Love Potion might be one of my fave plants of all time, but translated into spanish it sounds corny as hell. Most are just no way to translate and sound real, so people keep the english name. With the spanish accent. So, Loff Pottee On, Norrderr Lies, Ah Kaa Kooar aentae see- ehteh and Grey Why Tsar. Guess how we call the White Widow. That's right, Why Weed-o?
If grass woulnd't have been illegal all this time they'd have names like American Gold, (ahmerican goal) or Holland Blue (holaan bloo) or Toronto Snow (toronto snob) and scrapping off all those little annoying bits like bx, s, F and ### in the title, so punters would think there's a vegetable behind it.
Now how would i name a smoking only me and my friends purposed homemade cross consisting in Ocean Grown Kush San Fernando Valley Cut Backcrossed 1/Durban Poison x Cheese United Kingdom/Western Winds? PsicoForage? Hey, stop it right there, i wanna go walking. :icon_dizzy:

Ah, the creativity of the human mind.

Words contain a vibrational frequency. Take a look into the works of Dr. Masaru Emoto to understand this point of view.

I can understand sedate's view of naming something a derogatory term based off such evidence.

However, there is the element of unbridled human-creativity at play in the naming of strains by breeders. What would attempts to regulate or encourage a more palatable (pun intended) naming system serve? It seems futile, as in the human experience people have even named their own kids names like Moon-unit and Dweezil.

Perhaps, what is the most important is the love that is given by the growers who grow these plants that have names which make some cringe. "Oh I love you my little catpiss, you and dogshit are gonna make a sweet couple!" "Your gonna get me soooo high that I think I'll call your cross "Dirty Ole Bum" because I'll wake-up after smoking it having shit and pissed myself!"

So much for naming ganja for it's region of origin, everything changes, and with those changes, new names.

Great discussion.
