Hello,

I am thinking of growing one plant in a 1mx1m tent, i have an good fan, carbon filter and thinking of placing an ona gel downstream the outlet of the fan and filter.

I am concerned about the smell. How distinguishable will the smell be to neighbors after these control mexhanism given that the ten will be on my balcony? Especially in later stages.

Its my first grow and i am really worried about getting caught

I ran a ACI 6” carbon filter on my shed to outside and could not smell a thing! I now just run the charcoal filter on the fan in the room to scrub the air and if I turn it off I can smell more “ganja smell” than when it’s on. I have read around here that most filters work optimally for about 6 months and then may need to be replaced( new charcoal or a “wash”) and they may go longer or shorter im not for certain also higher RH in the room will kill the charcoal. Im still on the same charcoal on mine and think it’s working fine. I did take the fabric cover off of it and shake it out after my first run.

Had a neighbor with a small tent inside his house using a filter that wasn’t working that great, I could smell “fresh tomato plant” smell, it wasn’t a weed smell but it caught my nose for sure ( and mind you I neck deep in outdoor growing at the time so I had a trained nose for it) I asked my dad if he could smell it and he didn’t know what I was talking about hahaha!

I am running an Airontek 15cm wide, 12 cm long Carbon filter with suggested airflow of 150m3/h
And a VKO quite fan 137m3/h
Tent is 1mx1m

How do you think the odor control will be in flowering? Will it be noticeable?

Yes ! I am the low odor, one plant at a time, secret grow specialist !

You'll need a carbon filter, fan and a low odor strain... Dont skimp, get a good carbon filter.

Low odor strain #!

Northern Lights. I've grown this four times now in a very small space. The odor is much lower than most, but gets it still gets smelly late flower. (you'll have 1-3 weeks of odor to manage). Its an amazing strain, I highly recommend Nirvana..

Also, start looking at seedbanks to see if they have "low odor recommendations"... I'll post a few strains that always seem to come up below to save you some time. Please note, low odor strains are NOT no odor strains, they are just less smelly than most. Some low odor strains are still quite fragrant, they just have odors that are not obviously cannabis... (strains listed with a * have been grown by me)

1. Northern Lights *
2. Master Kush
3. White Rhino
4. Jack Herer
5. Green Ninja
6. Tutankhamon
7. Durban Poison. *

I've grown 5 times now in a small box hidden in my laundry room. People walk inches from my grow space and notice nothing. (until late flower)

In the final weeks of flower, it becomes noticeable and some odor escapes past my carbon filter. Be ready for this, the smell is slight and easy to cover up using incense, ONA gel or just about anything that adds some odor.. But you will have to cover up..(not in your grow tent of course)

The final weeks of flower are the toughest challenge I have at the moment, I am still working to get my grows 100% odor free.. I'll keep you posted if I ever get there... (I may try a second carbon filter outside my grow box...)...

Also,if you have the ability to vent outdoors, this is a huge help ! I hope this helps...

Northern Lights in a box, 24 inches of height to use !

What breeder? Northern Lights for me has been absolutely zero odor at all in Veg, but it still has a lingering odor during late flower. This is mainly due to the fact that the room that my cabinet is in has no moving air.... I'm working to see if I can vent outside, but that's a major project. (work in progress)

The nice thing about NL is that the smell is sweet, like honey and pine... Think juicy fruit gum. (it does not smell like a skunk orgy)... I still have to explain "what that smell is" though....

you should be fine, I have had 2 in a 4x4 carbon filters do wonders but you need to make sure the exhaust fan runs 24/7 or else the smell will leak out of the tent. Just my opinion though I can’t guarantee a damn thing.

My tent is 160cm tall of which 30 will be occupied by the bucket and some space by the light/ filter and vent in the top.

Will a northern light fit my tent?

Northern Lights is perfect ! It grows small and bushy, even through the stretch... I've grown it four times now with only 24 inches of height if that helps to answer your question. Bottom line, Northern Lights will not get super tall and lanky like many other strains...

You'll need to learn how to train though. Even low and bushy plants can stretch a bit.. Use a trellis net or learn other ways to train your plants to stay low, and you'll be fine...

If you just grow without learning to train, yes Northern Lights or any plant may get too tall for your tent..

Those filter look fine, but I've never used them so I cant say for sure. AC Afinity, Terrabloom, Phresh are brands many recommend.... (although Phresh is quite pricey)...
