Hello All:

Here's the deal; we've been trying new og kush strains in our rooms, we run 2 rooms with 4 1000's on spinners (not vented), hydro in hydroton, 40 gallon reservoir with House and Garden nutrients, SOG with trellis, intake/exhaust, co2, ac, fans... we grow thenm big (veg 8 weeks), six plants cover 8 x 8 grid.

For some reason we keep having the same problem, the finished medicine looks like wheat, it fingers/foxtails out into stacked calyxes that look like hermy pods. We tried a Ghost cut and the whole room was a failure, we just tried a tahoe which was better but still had allot of the same foxtail issues and lots of scraggle; we tried keeping the lights a little higher and we think that's why we got the scraggle, we also kept the ppms lower than usual. We also tried a Larry's og and didn't have the foxtail problems but the flowers were very small and very low yield... plenty of scraggle too. For the Larry's and Tahoe, I know the genetics are good because the grower I obtained them from is very reputable. The Ghost was just a bad phenotype I believe, I grew it from seed. The plant was a monster, incredible size just poor results. I'm going to buy some light diffusers, other than that... don't know what else to do. Could someone please provide advice! I thank you in advance.

Providing more detail will get you more detailled answers. Pictures will take that even farther....

picking at the words you wrote.....

(not vented) ??? Sealed room? No ventilation? What do you mean here?

what are your temps and humidity?

what ppms do you consider lower than usual ?

how high were the lights above the plants?

If you don't pitslwhip/strip your plants of all the lower growth you'll end up with lotsa crap bud down low on those BIG plants. Were they trimmed up at flower/just after the flip...or did you let them keep all their vegatation?

just tryin to hit on a few things that might make sense....

hope ya figure it out....

I ask because one of my neighbors has been all about some sort of spinner. But he's planning on setting up a grow in a house that's either going to be put up for (short)sale or foreclosed. I asked him what he was thinking, because he doesn't know shit about growing in the first place, how he thought he might actually finish out a run when the clock is ticking down his ass like that.

That set-up intrigues me.

how high are your temps? u say they are not air cooled? only time i have severe foxtailing is when the buds get to close to the light and its to hot.

couple shots of Chemdog D i grew last summer.

pics 1-5 high heat

pics 6-8 normal temp ranges same plant.

I agree with KID......I bet its your temps, fox tailing for me has only occurred when the plants are to close to the light and get to hot. dont ever let the flowering room get over 78, or this will happen, and keep the light minimum 18" away, even that might be a little close, depends on what wattage each light is!

I had a problem once like this with my sour d once but I always figured it was from high heat, it was 2 1k's in a 4x8 tent in summer. The buds looked much like KT's nugs pictured above.

It not that big of a prob just that the buds dont look as nice and compact, They become a little stringy. Its funny kid I also have a chemdog that looks just like yours my temps were about 82 in flower and the same shit happened. I have to agree with kid from experience its gotta be due to heat def in a og strain. Note some strains are just geneticaly proned to foxtail but def not an og. Maybe you may want to circulate some air in there and get that heat outta that room. You can start there.

Hmm...I run those temps (but different strains) and don't have that problem. I was even running in the mid 80s before CO2.
So with those strains you shouldn't really run CO2 then? I mean you can but you want higher temps to open those stomata so they can REALLY benefit from the added CO2 no?

When my lights are too close I can get some foxtailing but it's usually accompanied by some bleaching or other localized problem like burning.
And when I have got foxtailing it was a little different...more stretchy like gaps between the bract clusters.

If you keep having that problem with multiple strains consistently with your lights raised or where you had them, I think you could eliminate them being too close as a problem.
Do the buds closer to the floor where it's cooler do it too?
You don't have any powerbars in there with red lights do you? no light leaks? Not running excessive nitrogen?

I'm kinda stumped. Now I can't remember what you said the temps were. I don't know why but for some reason something's telling me that's not it.
well...good luck.
