Hi Folks,

I recently decided that because growing for personal use has become legal in my neck of the woods and purchasing was busting my budget I would renew an old hobby, growing cannabis. I can't say I'm new to growing, however, the first lesson I experienced is that I should forget about everything I ever thought I knew about growing in the past. What a surprise! It's a whole new world now.

I'm looking forward to learning more and enjoying the experience along the way. I have been pretty much been winging it and searching the internet for answers and quickly learning that similar issues are caused by different problems. I certainly made my fair share of mistakes and over corrections along the way. Understanding nutrients and the various methods of monitoring them can make your head hurt. I think I'm nearing the end of my first grow but then again maybe not, I've never done this before.

My opinion is if you never try you never learn. I'm trying hard but wonder how much I'm learning.

would you mind giving me a quick run down on the old ways? I'm new to it all so it'd be interesting for me to see how its changed and evolved

I agree with Chucky, as usual...

You need some more eyes on this problem. I don't know which ones but looks like some nutrient issues.

There is no way to compare the new way to the old way. Let's say the new way is rocket science while the old way was before the invention of the wheel. Your first task aside from starting the plant to determine it's sex is to then find a place to plant it in the middle of no where so no one can find or even see it. Keep in mind that you will be carrying everything the plant needs to the plant site like water for a minimum of about 4 months.

If you want the experience go find a place no one will see and plant a tomato plant and then take care of it. Then multiply the experience by the number of plants in different locations. At least law enforcement would not be interested no matter where you live, it was always a problem back in my days. It will give you a good idea of the problems faced doing it the old way. If you have specific questions feel free to ask.

Been there and done that back in around 1980! Humboldt county the first year and southern Oregon way out in the middle of nowhere the second year! Sounds romantic, but anything but! L O L! Was working for other people not myself! Just got a cut!

I decided to hold off on a new post. I have made some changes in what I'm doing to see if I can arrest the problem. If I don't at least try, even if it is a best uneducated based on nothing guess, then I'm not learning.

The plants are in the 9th week, 65 days, of a supposed 10 week grow, I think it's going to take an extra week. I think it is to late to save the plant. The buds are my biggest concern. Do you think the plants will make it a couple of weeks if I can arrest the current damage? Would you folks be able to tell me if I have white mold in the buds? Latest Photos attached, grow light setting is 50% for the photos. Thanks.

1. Plant 1 bud
2. Plant 2 bud
3. Both

Gonna be close! I’m sticking with calcium deficiency! Do you have any Cal mag? Take it easy with the lights and nursed them on through!

Nothing easy about it at all, back breaking work. 80's into the 90's for me. They were all mine, lol. 25 plants across 42 acres one plant per location. The land was mine but national guard used helicopters to try and find it. This was in the Adirondack Mountains in Northern NY.

It was camp flying for us! In Humboldt, I used to sit and watch peoples gardens being flown out in cargo nets under helicopters to an LZ. Then they were loaded on the trucks and take it wherever they took it! Those were the days ,eh! You heard something flying towards you and you were dive underneath the nearest Bush! L O L! If you got flown, it was all over!

No on the Cal Mag. Interesting that you mention Calcium. The Base A 4-0-1 nutrient contains 4.5% calcium. I increased the amount of Part A to the final mix of nutes hoping it would help. The grow light really washes the color out. Both plants are in fact much greener.

Regarding the light should I reduce the intensity, it's running at 90% 18/6

Do you see any white mold problems on the buds. If so everything else is Moot Point.

Wow big operation. Yeah helicopters and creatures that live in the woods were my enemies. You had to keep your trails invisible from the air as well.

Ahh that's what I was waiting to hear. Outstanding News. I just wasn't sure in as much as I've never seen it before. I will continue the fight to save the crop. Thank you for the peace of mind you gave me...

Please note the word "old" in our names. It's there for a reason, lol. I've been smoking weed since the 60's. As the Willie Nelson tune goes "Just roll me up and smoke me when I die."

And dropping the light intensity might not be a bad idea! Looks like a lot of the problems are at the top! Maybe 80% or 70% and see if anything improves. Don’t let it get too humid in there.

Well I think the damage is done, I'll post some new photos in a day or so. I believe the issue had a lot to do with the VPD and the nutes, this is a guess.

The Temps and RH have been all over the place with wild swings in the VPD from .8 to 1.6 in the course of a day. I think I have finally dialed in the correct VPD at 1.25. What I really noticed was that when I hit on the 1.25 the smell of the plants increased dramatically. I have been reducing the light level as you recommended a little at a time and now at 80% working toward 70%. This reduced the temp in the tent by 2 degrees at peak sun loads on the house, 84F to 82F. I have changed the air direction to provide cooler air to the grow room that has reduced the tent temp to 78F. Of course with the reduction of heat I could reduce the humidity from as high as 68% to 62% The outside temps are in the 90's and will be for a while. I'm watching this closely. I hope this will get me the couple of weeks I need to cross the finish line. If not I will just have to take them out early. I will be losing quite a few leaves.

You mentioned adding Cal-Mag. Do you have a brand you like? How much would you have recommended that I add if I had it? (For future reference). I looked at Cal-Mag and there sure are a lot of choices there. Thanks.

Way to work on getting it dialed in! That’s what this is all about! I just thought it looked like a calcium deficiency in the pictures! But I don’t know much more about it than you do! Don’t listen to me! I will lead you straight into the compost pile! L O L! But nobody else was piping up! I think any Cal mag will do! Whatever’s easiest to get! If you wanna give it a try! It’s not very toxic! L O L
