Hello fellow growers,

I'm seeking some guidance and advice on an issue I'm facing with my Orion F1 seedling. Despite my best efforts, it doesn't seem to be growing as expected, and the tips of the leaves have turned yellow. I'm hoping the experienced community here can shed some light on the situation and offer some suggestions.

Growing Setup:

  • Light: Mars Hydro FCE3000
  • Soil: pH 5.5-6.5 (mS/cm) 1.8, 63% organic matter, includes perlite, peat moss, and composted manure (custom mix due to local availability)
  • Seed: Orion F1
My Orion F1 seedling has been slow to grow, and it hasn't progressed as I expected it to. It's been struggling for a while now, and I'm unsure why.

  • Could the custom soil mix I'm using be a factor in the slow growth and yellowing leaves?
  • What might be causing the yellowing tips, and how can I address this issue?
  • Are there any specific nutrients or amendments I should consider adding to my soil to
've been watering with pH-balanced water to ensure the pH level of the soil remains within the recommended range.
I've been cautious not to overwater, allowing the soil to dry slightly between watering.
The light intensity and schedule have been consistent with the requirements for cannabis cultivation.

I would greatly appreciate any insights.

It's your medium. Looks like over fed seedling. Not much you can do. Your dirt is too hot for a seedling. Looks very wet too.

Yes could be too strong, in coco weed grow faster and usually has no nutrients (easier control), plus I dont see that perlite there at all, maybe its not aerated well. Do u have drainage holes at bottom of those pots? Cover those transparent pots with something, its bad for roots to get light throught walls. The organic matter u v mentioned is compost, right?

Overwatering or overfertiled substrate already, it should be around 0,6-0,8EC, 300-400PPM. Your EC 5.5 is too low too, it should be in peat between 6-6.5 max. These different ammendments like manure, organic matter most probably changed the PH of initial peat substrate u ve used.

  • Are there any specific nutrients or amendments I should consider adding to my soil to
All u need is more perlite, for now u dont need much nutrients as u ve used already prefertilized peat, manure, organic matter. What u ve already put there should have food for plant at least 2 weeks and even more perhaps cause roots still discover places in substrate, where still is unusued food.

Let it dry and dont water with run off, such small plants in peat need approx 10-15ml of water for some time, dont use those domes for now, inside is higher temperature because of the pressure and that might hurt the plant. Also dont have condensated water inside domes walls, it works as magnifier and can burn plant and humidity is too high too, approx 90%+

thank you for your reply.

I will be planting three Blue Cheese and three Triple G cannabis strains from Royal Queen Seeds in two separate tents, each measuring 120x120x200. Both strains are feminized, and I want to ensure a successful grow. I've equipped both tents with Mars Hydro FCE 3000 lights and purchased the full package of Advanced Nutrients. I have a water container with a water pump that will remain open for nutrient and water management.
I'm looking for advice on selecting the right soil mix since ready-made mixes aren't available where I live. Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated, as I've made a significant investment and want this grow to be a success.

Too many use that dam potting soil for seedlings and damage young plants with hot soil. I keep pushing promix as an idiot proof medium. Water only for the first 3 weeks then a light feed with a water feed cycle. I find 3-4 days in solo cups between watering perfect. Over watering isn't giving too much water all at once, its giving water too often. In Coco it needs to be constantly wet with multiple watering per day. Its trickier to learn and noobs fk up it a lot thinking its the go to product.

Those that know how to grow in Coco can do very well but when your learning how to grow weed start with an easy to grow in medium, Promix, Sunshine Mix#4, Greenworlds VPW30 and others with a peat based product. Then after you've learned the easy way and can grow in what ever you are comfortable with. Its harder to learn algebra if you don't understand arithmetic.

Light should be no higher then 50%, No closer than 1 meter above the plants.
You must understand that you are the problem. Not the seedling. What I'm about to tell you is a Hail Merry in order to save your seedling.
I'd say it's about a 50/50 shot. You are giving it 10 times to much water and then some. The medium the seedling is in is waterlogged and will take weeks to dry out. Buy then the seedling will have long been dead. Your simply drowning it.

In order to save this seedling you need to transplant it into fresh medium. Take another cup. Punch a lot of 1/4 inch holes in the bottom of the cup. Add 1" of washed crushed stone. Then fill with new medium with a large hollow in the top to drop the seedling in, add 2 oz plain water. Lift the seedling out of the saturated cup with a fork what ever you do go deep be gentle and don't break off the tap root. Set the ball in the new cup deep enough that those funny looking first leaves are at the surface. Fill in and pat down a bit. Water in with 1 shot glass of water. A little all the way around the seedling. Place it in a corner. Put a small juice glass over it as a greenhouse. Remove the glass for an hour a day. You should also place a playing card on top of the glass to shade the seedling. For the next 2 weeks give it 2 shot glasses of water a week. No more. One Saturday one mid week.

After 7-10 days remove the glass and give her good light.
Remember you must let the medium dry out between watering. Watering to often is a real big issue.
Water no more than twice a week. ad make sure you let the soil dry out deep down.
Stick your finger an inch deep so you can feel how moist or dry it is, don't water until it need water.

Also. Do not feed seedlings anything until at least 2 weeks after popping threw the ground.
Then only 1/4 the directed juice mix. very light solution the first week.

In an organic soil you do not P/H the water. Use only rain water. Or well off gassed city water.
If you must ph the water. 6.8 - 7 is fine. Do not worry about run off p/h.

Another thing. Doing an organic grow. You must understand how things work. Your plant cannot eat worm castings or composted organic matter.
You need to add microbes so they can break your organic material down and produce food for your plat. I can tell you how to do that a little later.

does your cup have drainage holes on the bottom?

Also put the clear cups in a colored cup or use tape on the outside, roots do not like light

Transplant to coco or grow right in coco with perlite for aerattion, use min 70:30 ratio but 50:50 is ok too. Pick coco based on EC, some have stronger u need for germination, seedlings. I d prefer coco without nutrients, in this case u r in control with those nutes u ve bought. If u want coco with nutes, dont go for higher than 0.8ec... this u ll need to feed approx a week since sprouting.

btw, coco need PH 5.8-6.0 and in flower 6.0-6.2

u ll need calmag as coco is more demanding for it.

If u want beneficial microbes, get myccorhizae product, they usually have also bacterias and kelp or fish mix as a food for them.

U can use coco over and over, no need to buy new one. Just get enzymes to decompose dead roots and change them into food.
