Hey everyone,

I'm currently on my first (outdoor) grow and I have some questions. I have two Hindu Kush plants (Sensi Seeds) and both are growing very well but are not showing any signs of flowering yet and we're getting close to the end of August. The days have been getting noticeably shorter for about a month now.

They've both been showing 'pre-flowers' since the beginning of July, though the big one (on the right) doesn't have any pistils. I'm very confused as to why this is happening as they've both been outside since the end of May.

Anyone who knows what might be happening and/or could tell if they will start flowering soon? Thanks in advance and have a great weekend!

Edit: the second picture is a close up of the smaller plant on the left and the third pic is a close up of the big one on the right.

Thanks for the answer! I'm probably being impatient, I know :) . Any thoughts on why the big one doesn't have any pistils yet? She's been showing pre-flowers for over a month but doesn't have any pistils, while the smaller one does.

Could be it, thought about that but wasn't sure. I'd say, at the moment, there's about 13.5 hours of daylight where I live. Will probably have to wait this one out and hope she'll be ready before the bad rain in October-November.

Maybe search on the strain, you might be able to get some specifics on normal flowering times. Different strains can mature at different times. For example my research indicates that sativas may not mature early enough in my area.

Derelict hit the nail on the head there. I think this affects what genetics can be grown in your region at least partially correct? So if you had a late blooming plant and a short season, unless you start her early she wont survive till harvest because first frost or major winter weather will kill the plant. Stoned and learning thinking. Peace.

Hindu Kush should be 100% indica, a fast finisher.

I've got four outdoor plants. One of them, a Wedding Cake, did the same thing. It's only in the last three days that I would say it's finally started to flower. I'm debating pulling it because it probably won't finish, but I hate killing a plant.

Wedding Cake take a long time to finish. I was in to Nov. for mine, But it was worth the wait. Don't pull them.

Little update: had a very bad storm in my region and lost the big girl, I was able to get my other plant inside on time. It's sad but I don't think she would have been ready before the first frost.

The smaller one is now about 1-2 weeks into flower.

Thanks for the help everyone!

The female preflower is pear shaped and produces a pair of pistils. Frequently, the female preflowers do not show pistils until well after the preflowers have emerged. Thus, don't yank a plant because it has no pistils. Pistillate preflowers are located at the node between the stipule and emerging branch.

Also, some female preflowers never produce pistils. A female preflower without pistils is difficult to distinguish from a male preflower. Thus, hermaphrodite issues should not be resolved by the appearance of preflowers, without pistils, on a plant otherwise believed to be a female. 🕊
