I was wondering if it matters what kind of ph up and ph down to use if can use the stuff at a petstore called

API pH DOWN Freshwater Aquarium Water? Or would general hydroponics ph up/down better to use? Thanks

It's probably something like sulfuric acid, if i had to guess.

It'd be fine to use it.

The API will work if they haven't changed there formula. It use to be what we would call a very soft/genital ph adjuster. Meaning it took more to affect a drop in ph. More than .2 to .3 adjustment in a aquarium with fish in it can kill every fish in the tank in a few mins. Where it's nothing for us to adjust from say 8.3 to 6.3 in 1 to 30 gal jugs or reservoirs.

Just buy a jug of sulfuric and and dilute it for pH down and something like potassium carbonate for pH up.

Yes it absolutely matters, the media is imo the most important factor.
