there's an old japanese book with many insert techniques, i can't remember the name right now, but it was cannabis specific, to insert cannabis clones in other plants like they do with lemons and etc,.. but much more in depth. the idea was to mask the cannabis buds if i remember correctly, cool stuff.

Thanks. The larger plan, if this succeeds, is to set up a rootstock indoors for autoflower seedlings, bypassing the root rush issue

Yes I should look into grafting as a whole because cannabis teks are usually about whip graft which sucks and they're all boohoo bout autos their data is old. Bro science

My question is "where are her roots going to go". My plants roots in my hydro buckets at 38 days old are about 5 inch circle and 18" long. I know farmers graft branches onto other trees that have their own root system, but the branches don't need roots as they share root system with their host. I suppose this is possible for your seedling too, but I kinda think your seedling is going to want her own root structure. Right now she doesn't know or care what medium she is growing in, but she will want to be developing a root structure? IDK

The roots won't form, per se. The taproots, I hypothesize, will fuse in process similar )identical to grafting. It will get it's water and nutrients same way a shoot from normal plant would

But I totally understand your question, thats the hypothesis im testing: can a seedling bypass root formation and fuse with a mother. We are witnessing the scientific method: fuck around, find out lol. Idk if I'm first guy to do this Ik I'm not in fact but I can't find any info on it for weed specifically but you see trees growing out of trees or plants growing out trees from seeds that land. If I was trying to maximize my every seedling I wouldn't risk it but it's a free for all in my state ATM so let er rip

I’m not nearly educated enough to chime in but I’m here in support of the frankendank.

We were so busy asking if we could, but spent no time asking if we should...

lol I am kidding, I am so ready for this thread! I haven't been this excited for a thread since that guy used zip ties to stick his whole ass plant that split into 4 separate pieces back together and it survived. Ill be watching this thread as well.

48 hours. Still looks quite happy. Leaves were still nearly fused at time of graft.

Time line- 48 hours, 24 hours, 0 hours

@mellingwood91 Right on. Just had to ask the question that came to my mind. Orville and Wilbur had an idea and everybody said "you can't fly". Why not give it a try. Rock on

A thought:

Brand new seedlings may, in fact, be far better suited for grafting than mature cuttings.

A seed contains all of the nutrients the plant will require for quite awhile.
The cotyledon is made to provide plant with water.

The biggest hurdle with grafting is getting enough water and nutrients to the scion while the fusion takes place.

Hypocotyl - Wikipedia

en.m.wikipedia.org

I believe this is the part of seedling anatomy that will allow for seamless transition.. the radicle will have to die

72 hours.
Keep in mind that this is just an initial experiment to see if A seedling could survive like this -
THIS seedling is a Honey Cream that had failed to germinate in papertowel after 72 hours with 2 other strains Id started..so I planted it in a "whatever" bucket set aside just in case. A week later Id seen the seedling, unrooted, on surface, looking weak. I transplanted into a real pot, hoping it'd bounce back, and next day, decided to use it for this experiment
SO keep mind : this seedling was ALREADY a failure to launch, so the slow rate of growth is not necessarily from the graft, but growing, she is, indeed
