if you're talking about how it makes a crust, yes, that's almost eliminated

A self-watering pot would eliminate any risks of over- or under- watering, and plants would theoretically have all the water available for optimal rapid growth without any risks of over-watering.

Then the medium would not bind together and aggregate as with over the top watering, thus providing more air circulation inside it.

That's at least the theory ?

For sun-scorched land, the answer is more plants (cover crops). Perlite blows away, IME. I appreciate that my correction didn't upset you, sometimes people get upset about that.

I guess perlite would blow away, it stays dry so there's no weight. no problem Sea, i certainly wont get upset about that because you corrected something i saw wrong and also gave more information about the topic. so i learn too :)

Speaking of watering, what do you people think of self - watering pots ?
Like this one:

Would it allow the soil in the container to clogg less between each watering, and thus provide roots with more oxygen ?

I would use whatever best soil medium i could get my hands on, until it would be time to transplant into my garden soil.

I've heard of people using a special soil mix designed to simplify the nutrient process: all one has to do is to mix the ingredients, and everything will be there for both vegetative growth then flowering; one only needs to take care of watering :
It's called Subcool super soil receipe: is it a good idea ?

That's the theory, yes. The thing is, you've gotta be sure you haven't overfilled the reservoir.

Totally passive. IIRC, the hempy tub is a derivation of the original Earth Box.
