I've got three bathtubs I'll be placing next to my new greenhouse and will need to cover this winter. Thinking of doing the same. Great minds and that happy horse shit?

Day 27

Growth is back on track.

But I am seeing a few leaves indicating a calcium deficiency.

Only 3 leaves out of 12 seedlings so caught it early.

I'm going to mix up a gal of each, 2.4 gms tomato and calcium per gallon of water and 1.2 gms magnesium sulfate and start mixing those daily at a quarter strength and have the recommended percentage of nutes. No sense reinventing the wheel.

5 something am on the West coast. Mixing nutes, can't sleep.

After upping the calmag they're looking better already.

Only leaf now showing an issue. Mixed the gallon of each, mixed with filtered water and fed. Will try to get 3 feedings in today and tomorrow. Grow babies grow!

Day 28

Looks like pre mixing at the recommended dosage is working.

Guess I was starving the poor plants. Watered three times yesterday and will do the same today.

I haven't tested anything since I started and will check all readings today. I haven't felt the need as there's been no real issues, other than not giving them enough nutes and that touch of calcium deficiency.

Planning on mainline training these plants. First topping should be in a few days for several of the larger ones.

Wednesday is planting day. I'll put another 15+ seeds in peat pots or better yet I'll have my young helper do it. Trying to teach him how to do all this stuff so when I run away for a few days he can watch over it.

I've got to install the lights today. We're getting close to 12/12 and the weather is beginning to change. Getting a bit colder at night as well.

Busy day ahead and I'm ready to break out the bong. Luckily I've got some Bluedream to get me motivated and some GG4 for when I'm done.

Happy Growing!

Still Day 28

I didn't have enough 2 x 4 to make a frame, 17" short, so before running to the hardware store I'm looking in the garage and see 4 clip lights.

They're on a timer 6:30 - 8pm and will fire up again at 4:30am until 7, for now. LED's.

Autumn equinox in about 5 hours. We had 12 hrs 8 min of daylight. Glad I got lights up.

I still have to install the windows and put the top on. Rain is in the forecast Fri/Sat. I'm taking a break with some home grown but gotta get more done tonight.

These 3 look to be the first of the culled.

That's why they're not under a light. Going to have another dozen seedlings needing space in about a week so no time to baby a few. I'm sure the two larger will be male, never fails.
Looks like the leaf bouble will stay. I don't see any more on new growth and they got 4 waterings today.

I've got 48 qts of coco soaking in a strong cal/mag solution. I haven't separated the coir from the dust and will use as is with some perlite. I'll give a few of the 1 gal cloth pots a go and a few of my DIY pots.

One more hit and back too it.

Interesting journal here is making me want to try Coco...I have added k9 in with my soil at a 75/25 (soil/Coco) rate during winter grows in my greenhouse so I don't get a lot of fungus gnats/roots holding water but maybe I should strive for more Coco! Do you think it's a waste to combine Coco and soil? Does it allow for microbiology to flourish like soil does? Liking your results!

Yes and yes. Added mycribal fungi to the coco pots and started adding coco to soil pots.

I hate growing anything in pots but the coco/hydro is working well.

Had 3 lettuce and 4 cherry tomato seeds pop which I'll try growing with the Krafty method. Still awaiting a few more tomato and pepper seeds.

So far so good.

Day 30

Topped 3, pulled the 3 runts and got my first Bud Light Kratky going on.

Basil. Who'd a guessed?

Up to full strength on the nutes. From what I've seen this past month I'll start with 1/4 strength for the first week and a half, up it to 1/3 for a week plus and full strength by beginning of week 4.

I've got tomatoes and lettuce growing in baskets.

And planted more lettuce, 4 spinach and still waiting for the habanero's to pop. May have to plant more.

While their growth has been exceptional compared with soil I believe it could be faster. My new nute schedule should help on the next batch which go into peat pots tomorrow morning.

Fun times!

Day 31 & Day 1

Everybody looking good.

A little overcast this morning at 72F and a storm in supposed to be heading North of us so I may have to put a tray on the seed warmer of today's planting. Only 12 seeds this time.

Tomatoes and lettuce are started and can't wait to see how they grow in coco and this magic nute mix.

Still searching for buckets. I've got a donut shop on my schedule today and hope to score a few at least. Really want to try DWC with some of these cherry's and a few larger cultivars. Tomatoes and lettuce all winter along with a monthly harvest of bud would be awesome.

My best plant in soil.

Not too shabby and receives little artificial light. He/she should be ready to top by the weekend but overall coco/hydro blows away soil growing.

I've been considering picking up some rock wool. While the coco works fine for what I'm doing I believe the bubbles from a dwc might help the coco fall out of the cup and same for cloning. Can't wait to try the aquarium for cloning and rock wool would keep it cleaner.

Day 33 & Day 3

Look what I found on top of the coco next to the stem. Cut worm I assume.

Snacking on my babies.

There must be more.

Montery bt spray tonight.

Topped the other 6 today

Day 3 on round 2. Nothing to report, no seeds popped yet. I expect the majority to pop this weekend and have 48 qts of coco buffered and ready.

Ran water tests on everything. Using filtered tap, pH was a little high at 6.8. Lowered to 5.8-6.2, otherwise all good with 235-240ppm and ec 490-500. Plant growth is good and enjoying the ride.

Happy Growing!

Days 38/8

9 of 12 seeds so far.

There's 4 more in the warmer.

My hobby is growing

Lettuce, tomatoes, basil and spinach, Oh My!

Liking Kratky's idea.

Instead of ordering more coco on Amazon my new order includes an air blower and 200 1" rock wool plugs to run some DWC buckets. This hydro stuff is something else and fall/winter is the time to run it outside here in sunny so cal.

Temps are cooling at night and daytime isn't cooking. Hopefully we won't have much rain this fall (usually mild/sunny) until well after New Year. You've all seen the parade from Pasadena. 80's and sunshine every frickin year.

Work is busy and I'll pot the seedlings asap.

Happy Growing!

Day 42/12

Growth is steady but has slowed.

The 2 largest are almost ready to be topped again (mainline).

They were a week ahead of the rest on the first topping so, steady growth but not fast growth.

Current nutrient solution:
MasterBlend tomato 76.8 grams
Calcium 76.8 gms
Epsom 34.4 gms
Each mixed in 1 gal filtered tap water.
1/2 cup each is mixed with water to make a gallon. This is full strength and the ec is over 1100. I've been diluting this by half with water.

I'm guessing at 5 weeks old they should be getting this or close to it and the reason for the slower growth.

Upping to 1/3 of each per gal and see what happens.

The added herbs and veggies are taking space and I need to get them off my tray and into either Kratky containers or air aided buckets.

I'll pot the 9 seedlings tonight. I've been watering them and the veggies with the same mix as the older cannabis with no issues. Hum.

Still having fun with this hydro stuff. Got a 400 gph water pump on order, a small bucket with drip system tubing and parts and plenty of pvc pipe and fittings.

Time to puff.

Happy Growing.!

Day 43/13

Got the little ones potted and happy.

One got sloshed on first watering this morning, moved a bit, but at the end of the day I couldn't point out which one. In soil it could have died and at least faded a bit. Not in coco.

Can't believe I'm bitching about the growth rate. It's amazing and puts soil to shame but I can see the potential and I'm not hitting it.

Using same strength on seedlings as 5 week old plants? Maybe starting with the stronger nutes works? Never would have believed it.

Seeing how the different seedlings tolerate the nutes is interesting (tomatoes love it, lettuce okay, spinach blooming, peppers so so). Couldn't have asked for more.

I'll top the 2 larger ones tomorrow morning.

They're ready.

Kratchy would be proud.

Got another dozen in clear containers. Let's see those roots grow.

As soon as I nuke the kitchen window (got scale) I'll add a few Krackty basil and lettuce. LED light above I can run all night.

Growing weed in October, outside in a greenhouse. Who'd a thought?

Wish I could retire and farm all day.

Happy Growing!

Day 44/14

Topped 2

These two were also the first to be topped by 5-6 days over the others.

They're all crammed together

but doing well.

Growth has increased again. 1/3 cup of each three concentrated MasterBlend nutes. Making about 8 gallons a day with 9 plants & 9 seedlings.

Gotta water through runoff to flush out old salts and add new/fresh. Watering the pot basically. I've been watering everything else the same, ie tomatoes basil lettuce peppers in their little 8oz cups.

Speaking of which most are in their own Kratky bottles and will be moved outside so I can start more. Got bush beans spouting. Even planted a couple purple. Green beans should take well to this method of growing but will have to be kept in the greenhouse.

I plan on moving the 9 adult pot plants out and into another greenhouse without extra lighting (today we had 11:37 total daylight) by the end of the month/first week of November. Gotta make room for the Nov seedlings and put these into flower.

So far it's been easy. Only issues were when I was not mixing the proper percentage of the nutes. You can always cut it in half or more but I'm not seeing why. All are being watered with the same mix.

Here's to fresh herbs, tomatoes, peppers, lettuce and bud for months.

The damage was caused over 3 weeks ago and has stayed the same but yeah, time to clip it and a couple others.

This is 2 weeks ago.
