I've been wondering which is better for both overall yield and end product quality. I do love the impressive look of one long fat bud that makes people♀ say, "Oh my gawd, your bud♂ is huge!!"
However, We all know that huge buds are really several small buds nestled together in close proximity.
Since all those buds crammed together trap more leaves and whatever else falls or crawls between them, it seems to me that growing lots of individual buds is preferable to letting them pack together tightly. That way, no leaves and far less junk will become trapped between the individual buds. We all know this promotes mold and rot. Also, fresh air is allowed to dissipate excess moisture.
IMO, it is only a matter of how much you like to spend time trimming. Small takes longer...sometimes much longer so I prefer bigger buds. Bottom line, though, you grind it anyway.
