Hey guys, I just finished my first grow and I'm a bit disappointed due to small yield, I ran 8x Critical in 4x4 tent 3gal pots under 600W HPS, vegged them for aprox 1 month and flowered for 60 days, I just don't understand what I fucked up, I managed to pull 20grams a plant that's an aprox final yield of 160+ grams, and I thought this plant would be a decent yielder or I dunno, maybe it's my first grow and I made mistake at some point.

So for my next grow, I got Critical Kush from barney's farm this time, different genetic, maybe it will go better this time, I plan to scrog them, but I am unsure of number of plants, and pot sizes, to maximize my yield in 4x4 area and get the bang for my buck.

So my options are these: 6 plants in 3 gal pots or 4 plants in 5 gal pots, either option will recieve training, top at 5th node, then wait to grow till screen and start weave etc.

So? 6 plants in 3 gal or 4 plants in 5 gal? Any other advices are welcome on how to maximize my yield in 4x4 area under 600W hps or strains recommendations that yield high and have high thc just like this critical kush.

I would go with 4 5 gal myself, bigger pots bigger roots, and good space for each 1, as for high yield u cud go with northern lights, Big Bang, white widow, strawberry, there are plenty of highbrids that claim high yields but u can do well with a lot of strains as long as ur grow in a good environment, light, temps, rh etc, personally I changed to nft from soil as I find its better, good luck

You are in a tent, so height is an issue.
I think you need to veg as long as it takes to get a result that fills the tent.
Did you have much extra head space with a one month veg?

And: I'd go 3 gallon, as it is enough to grow a plant plenty big enough for your space.

Good luck

I can go for 4 weeks from seed before flipping yes, height isn't an issue I have 2m high tent but I want to scrog, because I want an even canopy and light coverage and from what I've been told this is the best way to improve your yields indoor when you have to grow in limited space such as 4x4 and go SCROG.

So, shall I go for 6 plants 3 gal pots with 1 month veg? Cuz if I go with 4 plants 5 gal pots I would have to veg longer right? Instead of 4 weeks like 6 right?

It comes down to filling the tent. If you can't fill the tent before you hit 2/3rds to 3/4ths root capacity you will be cutting into the yield of those plant the less root space they has when they go into flower. They like their root space during early flowering. Gotta have room to grow like a good pair of shoes and all that.

They officially call for one gallon of soil per foot of growth or one gallon of soil per month of growth but I've not had the best of luck with those figures. Depending on the soil density, organic material content, and overall nutrient content the roots can spread at different rates. I've had different batches of soil from the same company that one batch would shoot roots down to the bottom of the container in no time and the next would stall the roots in the upper half. Both plants would look the same up top because they had the same amount of roots but one was about to become rootbound in much shorter order.

That is why I switched to hydro. I just kept getting bigger and bigger pots to hold more soil and had less room for more plants just to get the veg time to fill the space I needed without managing a ton of plants of which I'm not a huge fan and don't have the time to do anyways. Went hydro and could contain a rootball in a 5 gallon bucket that's hard to pull off in even 25 gallons of soil.

I also couldn't pull more than a couple ounces tops per plant until I started vegging more than a month which yet again led to bigger pots and more soil. When I switched to DWC my yields doubled to tripled but my veg time didn't. I also got rid of every pest related problem I had that soil was causing.

I'm by no means an expert in maximizing commercial production or anything but if it was me in that space I'd go for 2-4 plants tops and veg longer in much bigger pots but that's just me. If I had more time on my hands to micromanage I might also do a SOG with as many little buggers as I could fit in there but that's just too much for me.

And of course head space is an issue but the direction you NEED to fill out is horizontal. Scrogging is a good option for filling a small space but the best scrog grows I've ever seen vegged 1 or 2 plants for quite a long time to fill up their area. Saw a micro grow somewhere years ago where a guy had produced over a pound using just using a ton of regular CFL's and scrogged for a couple or few months in just a 2.5'X2.5'X4' space using one plant. I tried to find it on google to no avail cause I'd love to find it just as an example of masterful scrogging AND CFL growing.

Watering plants under a scrog in a tent.no thank you.look into recirculating DWC for that kind of circus.my scrogs sit against walls in very tight places and it's impossible to even reach the back corners let alone put water in them.i run recirculating DWC so I don't have to get under the scrog at all

I started out in a 4x4 with 1x600. I stuffed 9x 3.7gallon pots and got 17.64oz dry. It can be done. Genetics, grower experience, and environment all play a massive role in this game.

You can also stuff 5x 4.7 gal pots in a 4x4 as well.

I've definitely seen it done many times. It just wasn't for me. I tried a soil grow year after going to hydro and it did way better, thanks to experience, but I still didn't get the yields in the same time I get with DWC. I'm sure somebody else can do it. Just not me. DWC was just easier for me. The initial investment just sucks.

I do agree though that RDWC is the way to go with scrog. Can't exactly move a tightly wired up plant to water around it. God forbid there's more than one. The only scrog I ever grew was one plant that took up half a T-5 8 bulb panel.

Even though it was only one plant it was a huge pain to water and not spill it on the top of the canopy that was growing literally less than 8 inches above the soil. Got 4 and a half ounces from it though so that's something. Best soil plant I ever had. Was also a huge waste of time for how long it took but I had no idea what I was doing back then so don't let that discourage you.

I went with three 7-gallon pots, veg’d for at least eight weeks in each of two 4x4 tents. All in soil, scrogged at about two feet above pots, agreed that getting to the pots for watering is difficult as the grow progresses. Recirc dwc is in my sights, not just this go round. Check my link from last grow.

I have the same size tent . You can do 5 5gal . The bigger the pot, bigger roots and more yield. I just harvested critical kush and got 1 more going .

Do you use amended soil or bottled nutes?
For bottled nutes, your pot size isn't as crucial as amended soil.
What growing medium do you use? Brand? Fabric or plastic pots?
How do you water?
Don't rely on time for veg and flower.
Genetics won't matter of you can't provide optimum conditions.
I'd skip on Barneys, go with bodhi, Gage green, bog, motarebel etc..

When you tell me grow medium you're using and how you're feeding them, I can give you more advice.

Scrog is amazing, just like other styles! Don't grow scrog, natural, sog or other styles just cause you want to!
Let your plan guide you to the style of grow you want!!

GGG really?Theres alot of way better priced seed breeders out there for half of them overpriced 300 dollar packs,He can basically get Thug Pug and get everything GGG has at half the cost,Archive and greenpoint will hang with any of those you mentioned.Just curious where your qualifications come from to give advice when your already giving bogus shit right out of the gate. The last part of your quote has me scratching my head in WTF.people grow a specific style based on research and the size and height restrictions. Not flipping a coin.I dont know ahat your talking about

When growing in soil, you'll wanna use a pressurized sprayer. The wand on the sprayer allows you to water anywhere in your tent under the scrog. If you can't get wanna of these then use a 3" diameter 5' long piece of pipe or something similar. On one end cut the pipe about 5" down the middle, then cut from the top of pipe to the 5" slit you made. That way you have an opening to pour your water in.

And how the fuck do you go about checking how much runoff is coming out or how dry the pot is to even know when to water? You gonna stick the pipe in the dirt or your magic wand and sniff it to see if its time to water. For surely you know all plants of different phenos will consume different rates of nutrients and water.Soil pots under scroggs are for hobbits and midgets

And how. Growing 5 right now that are all from the same seed from the same plant but from one known indica and one unknown sativa for parents. 2 of them couldn't be happier with 3/4 strength nutes at the moment flowering at 24 days in but 2 of the others are happier at full strength and the last one is probably gonna need to be even stouter.

And for sure, if you can't get to it to check and see if it even needs water then you might as well not be watering it at all.

Don't buy the 300, buy tree cheaper ones. I know archive and greenpoint. I said etc... cause I'm gonna list every breeder. That being said I'd recommend archive.

The last comment to let their plan guide them... their plan is how much time they have, space, room...etc
So if I wanted to grow scrog but i didn't have the time to do a proper veg, I wouldn't go with that style.

My qualifications comes from years of growing, researching, trail and error and reading.

What was the bogus advice?

Run off... Ha I have none, no flush, no ph.
Sorry I don't feed nutrients or grow a plant, I build my soil and let the soil grow the plant... Just like the outdoors.

How dry! I keep a constant moisture level

I don't wanna turn this into a organic vs commercially bought nutrients.
My soil has everything the plant will ever need it's the plants choice on what it wants to use.
Wet to dry is not good a constant moisture level is ideal.
Watering is a skill.
Your leaves will tell you what you need to know

I'm not familiar with Thug pug but
Unless thug pug has mother father cuts from ggg it's just bag seed.
