Hello again,

A first time grower in Vermont... going to start everything indoors (as soon as I have everything), before moving outdoors in late May/early June... I've got 5 feminized seeds of Blue Cheese that I'm going to start under 2 4 foot T5 bulbs... My question is about soil...

Recognizing I'm no soil chemist, is there a good potting soil/premix that i can start my seedlings in? I've been warned about using "hot" mixes with seedlings (nutrient burn), but also want something that will provide an effective start without too much worry.

Am I best off using a good quality organic potting soil to start? I know nitrogen is important in the vegetative state - is this something I would need to use while my young plants are still inside or something that would come in to play when they were larger and moved outside?

When transplanting outside, I plan on mixing our household compost in with our existing dug up top soil as a base, adding a phosphorous fertilizer during flowering.

Is this a reasonable start?

FoxFarm Light Warrior is my go to.

Thanks, I really appreciate the advice. Here comes the first of (potentially) several (perhaps idiotic) follow up questions...

Germinated seeds straight into Light Warrior, let 'em sprout? After some period of time, transplant small seedlings in to Ocean Forest? Or... am I adding LW to Ocean Farm, right from the start amd planting germinated seeds in the mix?

If you can get happy frog bagged soil do it. Plants grow great , all you need to do is water them until you transplant to outside , it could not be easier.
Good luck .
