Purple bud, hard to identify Botrytis

I have an outdoor plant early flowering.
The flowers are dark purple and I think it has Botrytis. But it's REALLY hard to tell.
I saw brown sugar leaves and when I pulled one a puff of dust (spores) emerged. Yikes!
The rest of the plant looks okay, but now I'm not sure.

Is there a way to tell if it has Botrytis other than pulling on sugar leaves?
BTW, those aren't webs, they're fuzzies from the poplar trees.

Why do think it’s got gray mold.
IMO you’d know if you had bud rot even if it’s your first time

I can see a bit off white fuzz I can’t say mind if it’s a b or c
A better pic might help

I messed up and this plant flowered early and is close to being done.
This is outdoor and we had rain every other day for a couple of weeks.

The white fuzz is from popular trees going to seed and sticking to the trichomes. (glad this doesn't happen in the Fall!)

In the past I have had many many plants, too many, with Botrytis so I know what it looks like on green buds but I have no experience with purple ones. Just wondered if there was another way to spot it, other than dying sugar leaves.

I had to google to check we’re talking about the same thing as I had never heard bud rot being called by its technical name.

The white fuzz I was referring to was at the bottom not the hairs from the trees hence asking to see a better pic.

“ First, you’ll notice an obvious discoloration in texture and color. Spotting botrytis on weed is kind of like watching the life drain from it. You’ll see greens turn into brown and gray color tones, and become drier or ‘dead-like’. Stems often become soft, and leaves will begin to turn yellow and brown, wilting as the disease overtakes the plant. On buds, a white dust-like coating can appear, which over time turns to a gray and brownish tone. Botrytis thrives in areas with little ventilation “

That doesn’t look good but you’re right tough to tell for sure but I’d say if you had dead browned sugar leaves your suspicions are probably correct ! Not sure if peroxide would bubble on mold or not but could give it a shot

Cut it out obviously don’t smoke it

Sry I can’t help more I’ve only had it once when i was recovering from a op and my ex couldn’t be bothered to tell me the lights and fan went out even though she smoked it

Hence being my ex

I threw the worst out cut the moldy buds and put the lot through bubble bags doing all that on new years night lol when I look back not so funny at the time

Okay, thanks for that. I have already tossed the bud, so no new pics.
I'll keep an eye out for dying leaves and the white dust in the description.

On a grow of that size, inspecting during the day is an arduous and time-consuming process! That is hit or miss at best! Especially later on! do yourself a favor and pick up one of these for less than 15 bucks! Go out after dark, and shine on the plants and mold, and Cat damage will jump right out at you! I was amazed at how well they work! Wouldn’t be without one! Huge timesaver, and a lot more thorough! Good luck, sister!

It looks like Brown Mold! this more common in my experience, Ive had it indoors too. always in the middle of them fat buds! Long time Gardener Ive never had grey/white mold.?

So, you think it just stayed wet too long and rotted like anything else would?
How do I deal with it? Just keep the flowers as dry as possible?

Brown leaves and dust clouds is definitely something fungal i would imagine.

you can remove most molds and mildews from flowers right after harvest. And yea keep the flowers as dry as possible. Iv straight up mounted a piece of plexiglass over plants doing fungal stuff before lmao. But thats not exactly practical.

Put 1 cup of 3% peroxide per gallon of water in a bucket, when you cut the plant, give her a few dips a branch at a time (you want the water moving around the flowers, but dont do it like you hate it or anything lol) Just shake em off and hang to dry afterward.

You'll see the vast majority of mildew, molds, spores, mycelium, what have you, collect on the surface of the water. It messes with smell and taste very little to do this. After a few dips youll want to refresh the solution. Can take a couple dip/shake cycles, but ive been able to remove practically all molds/PM from colas this way with basically zero ill effects on smoking the flower besides muted flavor. Ive never sold bud ive done this too, but ive smoked plenty of it. Wont help ya with straight up bud rot, but will with many other fungal contaminates.

Im not sure about spraying with peroxide on flowers before harvest, but i know a coupe of people that foliar spray h202 solutions during flower to prevent PM and it seems to work fine for them.

Nooo i used it once it had me cleaning everything lol defo don’t use it in the toilet area you’ll be horrified

It does work well for seeing mold mind

this is actually brilliant advice.

If you spend 5 mins after dark in the patch with just a cell phone flashlight, just that alone makes it way easier to notice problems on plants, less peripheral info for the brain to filter out, and white light.

You def wont find any cat piss patches with a cell phone though.

(seeding daturas near your plants can keep cats away pretty well, but avoid the day-flowering angel trumpet tree daturas, they have toxic pollen and flower away from the ground)

my brain went directly to being able to quickly determine which phenos are most pest resistant without all the guess work and comparison over time. Thats one of the most important traits i try to look for in plants.
