Quadlateral branching

I popped a 10 pack of brazil amazonia from world of seeds and one of the males is exhibiting quadlateral branching (4 branches come out when topped instead of 2). I have seen trilateral branching (3 branches) in a few south american sativa strains before but never quadlateral branching. Has anyone else ever seen this before? I'm naming this dude Onan.

I have a sensi star that is doing the same thing. Pretty neat IMO.

Anyone know if this is a genetic trait or one that is brought on by bud-site enhancing products?

Only on the one male plant this is happening? I would give him his own space to flower out and pollinate one of the branches of the girls to see if you could get this to happen in a female pheno.

The trait might ride with the y chromosome, which means it would never appear in a female, but it sure wouldn't hurt to try.

Thin Air, is your Sensi a male that's doing it too?

This is most definitely a genetic trait. The first internode to pop from seed on this plant had 4 branches and every subsequent internode afterward has 4 branches comming out of it. I don't use bud enhancement products so it's definitely not an enhancer doing the work. I will be working with this male and I will try and isolate the unique branching characteristic of this phenotype. I am going to try breeding with just south american genetics at first as I know some of the genetics from south america are naturally predisposed to trilateral branching. I will check the females again but I'm pretty sure just the male is exhibiting this trait. There's not even trilateral branching on any of the females or other males so it's probably a rare genetic trait. I'm not letting this one go, I plan on doing alot of pollinating with ol' mr.onan.

My sensi star that's doing it is a female. Those branches are the best for topping, my SS is a multi-headed beast cuz of em!

hey mr sputnik, how u doin man?
just thought ad show u my og raskals white berry am growing for the 1st time, she was a feminised gifted 2me by a friend that i popped a few months back.
i stripped her down to 4cuts wen she was big enough due to a pestt problem and got sum strange results!!!
2of the cuts grew normally and 2grew out like this

topped and trained she has grown out the 1st 4branches nicely

unfortunately this trait hasnt carried on in my girl but i sure hope it does4your male, defo breeding potential there :)

I see 2 branches (tops) and 2 fan leaves (and maybe some PM?).

Im with Ent. I see nothing special about that node...

there are two branches and two leaves. Any plant from seed will produce nodes like this.

If a plant the produces four branches and four leaves at each node it is usually considered a desireable trait because your yield will be much greater. this is called a whorled phyllotaxy:

I'll have to get a better pic tomorrow. It's not a whorled phyllotaxy although the internodes do seem to altermate at 45 degrees from each other when viewed from the top. the picture is 4 sprouts from 1 internode, I topped it and got 4 sprouts. this plant has long internodes buit seems to fill them in by the 4 branches that come out above.

the branching is 90 degrees apart, not 120 (trilateral), not 180 (bilateral), 90 degrees.

I'll post better pics. I wouldn't bother to post a new thread unless this plant was something I had never seen before.

and maybe it's quadRAlateral branching and not quadlateral, I'm no latin major :character0029:

that's some tight alternating bilateral growth! I'll have to post better pics, your plant has alternating bilateral growth. It's not quadralateral growth. It looks good for sure! this plant that I have is is weird. It has sprouts from the same horizontal internode at 90 degrees. It doesn't grow like typical weed.

If this type of growth will increase yield the genetic will be SHARED and hopefully never SOLD for the benefit of all mankind.

easi doubledub, uve defo missed what the pic shows, there is 4 leaves and no nodes popping out yet, jus look at the bottom of the pic and it clearly shows 3 leaves at the same height, look carefully and you'll see it bro

Here are some better pics. It looks like I'm getting alternating bilateral growth at internodes away from the main stem though. This plant is from seed so I'll see how it pans out.

Beautiful , after 40 yrs of growing I've only noticed tri & quad Lateral branching among the south american strains , fascinating .
Recently moved to Denver Co. so i could pursue (legally) an attempt to create a true breeding tri or quad lateral variety .
This could be very useful for a sea of green operation .
More bud sites = more yield .
