hello.

as i always grew in soil (long ago), i always used tap water.

This latest grow Im trying dwc as in theory it seems so simple!

Now using tap water, my water tested before any additives at a pH of near 7 (good right?)
My tds is at 750ppm before i add anything, after adding the nutrient solution mixed at .5ml per liter (quarter strength using the optimum hydroponixs 2 part grow nutes) my ppm are at between 850 and 900

My girls started as clones. I got them at @ 2 weeks after being clipped in potting soil i gently washed off to put into the bucket. Been in dwc now for 5 days and roots are starting to pop out of basket and touch water, looking good leaves never even drooped at all. the only water they got since being put in dwc is from the bubbles popping under the basket.

In my head im thinking too much gonna burn my girls at 900ppm. They seem perfectly fine thank the ganja gods.

So my question is when im to go full strength nutes my ppms are gonna be upwards of 1500. Will that be ok? Seems like thats super high ppms.

Also i went and checked out my towns water tests and its telling me that my water should test around 150ppm with 100ppm of that sodium hypochlorite.
As i read thru posts seems no one has water even close to my numbers.

Now I dont know whos advise to follow as the numbers are so far apart. the ec tds temp probe i bought from lightbrite hydro store 6 days ago was calibrated by the guy at store with 1340 solution, of course they were out of any of the calibrating solution to sell me.

What could i chevck the calibration with?

Even the temps reading with the probe is different from the thermometer in the tent. im basically blind as i cant trust any of my measuring equipment.
including my pH test kit. i bought a ph test probe, a liquid pH test kit by root farms and litmus paper kinda test strips and they all read differebnt pH reading from the same res.

Im liking the thought of dwc but am thinking im gonna transplant the girls back to soil or just start over in soil and walk away from the money ive spent on this venture.

Any advise is greatly appreciated

heree are my pHnumbers with the 3 tests on one of my buckets probe =6, liquid =4 pool strips =5 pool strips also tell me free chlorine is at almost 0

sorry for the terrible post its 2am and this is keeping me up at night literally

I agree dwc is the simplest...also think you have to have accurate meters...I run my well water@160 ppm... 400 ppm.is to much for what you have.. I'd be around 200..pH...6.5-6.2 to start..end of flower down to 5.9 ish.... don't get discouraged...it's way easier then ppl.think...this day and age ppl don't really want dirt weed...for me it's easier to run beanies..I like hydro guard..

I'm gonna stick with it. I'm thinking with the knowledge base here at thcfarmer and my own experience, I'm just gonna wing it and play it by how the plants react.

They look healthy one has a few roots into the res already but not the critical Kush yet.

I've started some lst with some steel hooks I've made and gonna scrog them if that's the correct term. To maximise the very small space I have. Was gonna fim them but I' prefer the lessor stress approach especially it being my first hydro experience.

Thanks for the reply and I'll see if I can't get some pick up so everyone can see how I'm doing.

Well I went out and bought a jug of steam distilled water, package says sodium 0 ppm and fluoride 0 ppm and it still reads 750 ppm on my meter. Now either he sold me a junk meter for 100$ or he calibrated it wrong.

Now I know for most likely the water I bought is next to 0 ppm so if I'm reading 750 for my tao water and 750 on a known low ppm water could I assume that a reading of 750 is actually near 0ppm?

What solution do you use to calibrate an ec meter? Is there some known solution I could buy to calibrate it with say like vinegar for ph?

This faulty meter is really bugging me I'm gonna try to return it and if they don't take it bavk it will be the last time I use that shop.

Will have to wait till Tuesday now because of holiday here on Monday and they don't open on Sunday.

Here some pics. The leggey girl on the right is alcupolco gold and the one on left with the tighter nodes is my critical Kush. Like I said just started the lst and have netting up in anticipation to scrog in the near future.

You can see on the Kush just starting to yellow along leaf edge I assume from pH imbalance at 4. Due to crappy quality testers. PH problem fixed for now

They should have also sold you calibration solution...it's definitely not right..
