You would think I could give them 8 hours. I truly have hunted this ground morning noon and night all on south side, west. Based on the tree height one way or another there is interference. Last ditch effort is front south side near the house with a fence. I did supplement back at home with one walkway light thru-out the night with no hermies. Maybe I just got lucky. My GG was 8 ft high by 5ft round. Awesome plant. My husband who is seasoned grower said plants get used to the extra light kind of acts little a supplement used until switch to flower. Although back at home total darkness. I have my auto's for back up, however I do not like hurting my girls. You want your outdoors plants in full darkness, a streetlight is like a hole in your tent could get males and hermies, 8 hours of direct sunlight is not ideal cant you give them southern exposer?.and skip the lights they wont do didley.
Your plants have had great success, awesome my friend. I think supplemental walkway lights will do the trick up until flower than total darkness. My outdoor plants get about 8 hours direct sun a day. There are streetlights, but they don't affect them. I get about 2 1/2 lbs dried and trimmed each on average. See the threads in my sig for evidence. Here's one about 3 weeks before harvest. https://www.thcfarmer.com/threads/pnw-outdoor-grow-2018.95614/post-2184383
I added walkway lights all night up until final stretch last year back at home, we have great sun during the day, with total darkness at night. However it is different here, may turn into a wait and see, just don't like the bummer in the end. Glad you had greatness, hopefully I will too!I was worried last year when I grew for the first time outside. I thought the same about flowering and the street lights. But didn't effect the flowering at all. I grew 2 plants last year (bag seeds) and got 22 0z's of real good weed. so this year I put 8 plants outside and I just can't wait.
Today is rainy, tomorrow I am hour by hour investigate southwest side again. This is all southern exposer. I watch the sun wander like it has some other place to go.You want your outdoors plants in full darkness, a streetlight is like a hole in your tent could get males and hermies, 8 hours of direct sunlight is not ideal cant you give them southern exposer?.and skip the lights they wont do didley.
Love the read. great info. What do you think about using a small shed my Father has, run a light to it. Use some daylight by opening the door, add a timer for a few hours through the night. However it does smell like a shed, old garden tractor in there, smells musty, my light is mars 600 tends to run hot on top, don't want to blow the place up. You got me think now. What would you change with the above plan. Am I going backwards or do I have something to run with. How can I keep my cannabis plants from flowering? — Ed Rosenthal
“How can I keep my cannabis plants from flowering?” I am referring to young plants germinated from seeds or clones that are hearty enough to bring outdoors. Now I want them to grow larger, but if they go by the natural light cycle there are over 10 hours of darkness which will trigger flowering.www.edrosenthal.com
Thanks, I am going to do just that. May here was still very cold and frost. We are still gaining by minutes now each day. It will be what it will be. :) Great knowledge here, I have always found so helpful for a 65 year old.. I started late growing wish I had done this years ago, what a blast!I wouldn’t stress about the amount of direct sun in regards to premature flowering. Obviously the more sun the better, but it’s the daylight hours that control flowering, not the amount of time under direct sun. With 15 hours of daylight you should be relatively safe. (Most growers in my area use the end of May as a safe time to move outside and we’ll only be at 14:40 by the end of the month.) At this point I’d make your move and hope for the best.
Just put them outside. They will be fine with 15 hours. I put mine out on Mother's Day or so every year, have never had an issue. As mentioned above, they only get 8 hours direct sun, and still grow to be trees. I have them on 20 hours inside before they go out.I have hunted the grounds for placement of my girls outside. Taking care of folks while in hospice. Wooded front back and sides with periodic light through out the day. Maybe 8 hours of full direct sunlight at a time. , It is 5-25-2021, with just over 15 hours of daylight. Front yard side street lighting with traffic, back yard side street lights. I have fencing, what are your thoughts of solar powered lighting. My gals have been on 18-6. Thought about a few walkway lights to supplement for lights. I think I am just screwed, unless some can share some ideas. Placed them outside now on the porch to get accumulate to the sun. Thanks.
Good plan. Two hours of direct sun for a couple days, then 4 hours for a few days.Great! I have had them on the outside porch for the last week introducing them to the weather. All goes well in the ground sometime this week. Still getting frost on Mother's day, wish I would have gotten them out earlier, but as the sun rises so will my girls. Thanks .
