Until the end try points for the rats are covered and you are able to properly fumigate there is no getting rid of them. You need to call the housing council. They will take care of it. About the only avenue I see.

For bird mites on my chickens I just dunk them in soap and water and let the soap dry. Dries them out pretty quick

Try soap and not bleach. Best of luck either way.

Please help.
May name is Gina and I’ve joined your website for a reason sort of unconnected to
Grows.
( Tho of course I’m pro all that anyway but my problem is nish to do with it all.)
But I’m so so desperate I’m half suicidal! Yep I’m mean this.
Let me explain, I’m in the uk London.
My flat is INFESTED with very hard to kill rat mites / probably bird mites too !!
A rats nest was unknown to me by boiler behind kitchen cupboards, well the bloody
Things broke in ran about hidden up for at least 4 or more days b4 I could get them out.
Now I’ve a serious rat mite infestation a child and no help !
Yes rat mites ( once rats are gone ) infest humans ! ! For months !
I’ve had 9 months of pure hell and torture!!
We’re being bitten to pieces, crawling alive these things are everywhere on ceilings walls etc.

Now u will know with spider mites ( evil things ) these things are tiny so tiny but
I’m sure you know wen I got them. There could be a grow going on in my block ? mites travel thru
Ceiling air Vents etc So spider mites are not a total rule out but because all this started
when rats broke in I’m going with That for moment (rats bring bird mites too.)
I know I’ve got these poxy mites i see black or dark dots ,real tiny , tiny lines and dots on everything
I’ve gone on amazon uk bought protector c ( crap if I’m honest)
And ardap flea spray, other things etc etc no joy.
None these are so hard to kill.
So I’m thinking since I’ve no problem with protecting a grow from harm what can I use to
KILL these things in some safety as I’ve a child in the home but no pets.
You lads ( and ladies ) must have best mite control methods / ideas on the planet !!
I’m thinking you seen it all !
What can I spray on walls ceilings floors , maybe a few times to rid these demon things.
If anyone is kind enough to help I’d really appreciate it
I’ll delete this message as soon as I get a few answers if you can help I’m prepared
To buy something from abroad but would prefer uk if poss.
Any ideas thanks so so much
Gina

Hi, I know this old but did you ever get rid of those rat mites in your home? Did you use the Ozone Generator that someone suggested? I am currently going through this and it is a nightmare that I want to be over. Any suggestions would be helpful especially methods used to get rid of them. Thanks

I've only dealt with spider mite on a few plants my 1st option would be smoke bombs, they're highly effective and deadly to anything breathing it without being eyewatering expensive.

You need to look into their life cycle otherwise it might only get temporary relief until eggs hatch!!
With smoke bombs I used 1 every 3rd day to ensure I caught them at every stage, double check it might leave traces of poison giving you extended cover?

This sounds like a good suggestion and alternative to insecticides. Been using all kinds and none seems to be working. Now looking into using Ozone. I've read many success stories about it getting rid of bad odors, mildew and of course Bugs! Some people swear by it that it gets rid of bugs and lingering odors. My apartment has both mold and mites so it would be an all around win for me. Just concerned with the health and safety issues that comes with it. At this point though I am desperate to find a solution been dealing with this for almost 6 months now. It has made me critically depressed.

Where can I get these smoke Bombs? You are right about the life cycle! Are mites on the list of bugs that these smoke bombs kill? Thank you for all your help

From what I am reading on English Rat Mites they can not live long term on human blood and can not reproduce at all.
Same with bird mites. If the mite population does not reduce withing a few weeks to a month you still have critters.

Yes those smoke bomb (Permethrin) will kill them but they'll come back if there's a source.
I had a quick look online apparently without a source for the mites they'll collapse humans are only a intermediary host not a permanent one.

Yeah. I know but here's my take a lot of the information on the Internet is dated. Like for instance, rat and bird mites can't live on human blood. New and updated information has debunked that theory. YES, they can absolutely survive off of human blood. Anyway, I was messaging you about the Ozone Generator wether or not you used it, was it successful? Thanks for responding.

Thank you. I am not sure if there's a host or not. The pest control where I live is Wack and I am not sure where to look myself. Management won't approve the pest control people who actually deal with these things. I heard the Ozone Generator will run the source away and kill the bugs. I think I am going to do some more research on that.

I'm only going on 2nd hand advice but apparently ozone will kill pests but you need high concentrations for long periods even then it's not a reliable aproach for pests?

Yeah, hey none of these things are reliable one shot source. Not even the smoke Bombs you mentioned. I was reading the reviews on those and it was mixed. Having worked for some people and not for others. I guess what I am trying to say is that you keep trying things until something works for you.

When you said 'one shot" it reminded me of something, afiak the stuff inside is used in world wide shipping containers to prevent hitch hiker pests.

You literally hang them in the room apparently they're very good...I've never used these you'll need to research them to be certain.

pyrethrins in a automatic sprayer will kill soft bodied mites.
set it to spray every 15 minutes , turn a fan on and go away for a weekend.
done.

You know what I heard about these but never thought much of them until now. Thanks for mentioning these to me. I am going to research and see what I can find out about them. From what I recall their supposed to be really good!

Is there any anglers here?
If you understand surface tension with your dry fly you can translate that to bugs!

The hairs on bugs act against surface tension creating a survival bubble
The fkrs don't even get wet, they can't afford to get wet they breathe through their body, it gets soaked = they die.
For spider mite/aphids etc just a wetting agent and water kills them that's the reason garders use dish soap but it doesn't kill eggs only adults.

Someone above commented about using bleach, it's not that the mites can stand bleach it because of surface tension, bleach if anything would increase surface tension.
