Journey well Rock.

Heard through the grapevine that the Grateful Dead are about to kick off a major tour for an extended period. Coming on the heels of no more Further..thought you might like some good news. It's Bobby, Phil, Mickey, Bill, Hornsby, Haines and more tba. Kick off starts at Lockn' Fest (formerly Interlockn') in VA next year.

Good news. the old farts are back...Red Rocks should be on schedule....will be there DEAD center 3rd row as usual....

I miss the dead:cool:
growing up I always thought they were trashy n hokey and my folks took me to dozen or more shows as a kid
I didn't enjoy much at all lmfao not at all but I was very young n couldnt smoke or anything
but now my dad is gone I jam the dead a lot and it takes me back to good times with him bumbling down a dirt road somewhere burning down headed fishin
my dad as a lot like Jerry and I hope they are both smoking one somewhere together now

Saw them briefly in 68 at a B in in Palo alto. B ins were free concerts My mother was very conservative and we went there to check it out and were blown away be the scene. Mom was appalled and we only stayed 15 mins or so.
Why John?? She would ask my Dad.
saw my 1st complete show 73 maples pavilion Stanford Univ....
Mom and Dad got used to me going to shows over the years. We were tried and true deadheads.
The music is what it is all about, the drugs were a big part but the music is what tried and true deadheads flocked to see the band way beyond description...
Story time...
Our friend from Australia said he cant stand the dead.
One night we tricked him by inviting him to the Gin convention in the city.
Off we went. Drove right past winterland and parked. He saw the billboard and figured out we tricked him, handed him his ticket and in we went.
Some how we got separated and did not see till the break.
When asked what ya reckon mate?? he paused shook his head in disbelief and said it was the most wonderful thing I have ever seen.
he seldom missed a show from that night on.....

Sounds good CM, I'll slide on in...
Here's the deal.....
My friend gets in line at 530 AM. I show up at gate opening and join him just after he dashes in and gets our seats.
In exchange I supply his ticket, PBR beers, A soundboard disc of show, refers, bring in food...
he is devoted and will wait in line regardless of our deal, but i think it is real fair for me to pitch in, he loves it as well....

I've been on your end of that deal before, but I'm not really cut out to be "the runner". I'll bring the beer and other offerings :)

Was second row, left every night for the last run. I like that upper north lot.

Following the passing of longtime Grateful Dead manager Rock Scully, guitarist Bob Weir took to Facebook to pen a note about Scully. Weir praised Scully’s “mischevious sense of adventure,” saying that made him a “perfect candidate for the position of manager for a band with similar sensibilities.”
Scully passed away last night after a battle with lung cancer. He was 73. Read the full message below.
Well, OK, our old friend Rock has moved on. Way more than nine lives, by my count.
Where to begin? When last we spoke, he was as full of wonder and curiosity as when we first met him back at the Acid Test. His mischievous sense of adventure made him a perfect candidate for the position of manager for a band with similar sensibilities and and an equally similar disregard for the way things were supposed to be done.
We bowled ahead and made history together, – the kind people write books and make movies about. Rock was a BIG part of it all. He put in the miles with us. He knew the words to all the songs. He knew the right things to say, to tell people, to let them know what we were all about without ever actually explaining anything, because he knew it couldn’t be explained.
What a guy.
Vaya con Dios, Rock, we’ll be catching up…
Cheers,

Weir

as much as I've tripped over the years..except for a couple of songs I never got a liking for the Dead.

RIP though!

First time I ever heard them was on a cassette tape a friend of mine had..I thought wow..sounds like a shitty bluegrass band..lol. Never dug it until I experienced the scene for myself. Life changing is all I can say...Undescribable is the best way to describe it. I bet the the dead sound pretty crappy to a lot of people who never made the scene. When I hear a tune now, I'm transcended to another dimension through memory triggers. The stories I could tell could go on forever man. Just feel blessed to be a part of it all really.

My friends would be in the Dead center too,
maybe row 12 or 13 at Red Rocks;
where ever the sweet spot is there--
always loved those Red Rock tapes...
