They'll be alright

I’ve stumbled upon your thread by random chance, and feel I’ve found a kindred spirit. I’ve been accused of being more than a tad wordy in my writings as well, essays in school needed copious editing to whittle them down to acceptable word counts. Besides cannabis, I love words, adjectives especially, and I’m enjoying reading your thread more than most of what appears online. I’ve been a weed advocate and smoker for over 35 years, and have used it medically for all that time. I’ve been growing for years also, however I didn’t get really serious about dialing it all in until about 9 years ago.Oops, my bad. The ducting I was asking about would be the tent exhaust, which is blowing really humid air into my already too humid basement. I’m just looking for a way to get that humidity out of there. Right now I have a humidifier in the tent, which is being lightly blown into the basement where I have a dehumidifier struggling to keep up. What’s weird is I’m pouring the water from the dehumidifier into the humidifier (plus a little extra), so I’m just basically recycling it. It wouldn’t be a problem except that basement gets really humid in early summer and the dehumidifier really has to fight to keep up.
Heard.Do you prune the roots once they get full? Someone mentioned to do so in an earlier thread I was going to look for.
My OCD and four years of grammar classes in college prevent me from using the talk to text feature on my phone. Arguing with Siri over comma placement while driving down the road gets to be too much for me! But unlike some word nerds I know, I never fault a person for grammatical errors in a text. In fact, I’m a bit jealous of them. Ahhh, to be easy and breezy with what I type—that would be sublime!
Does thus setup work for youI was hoping to make a setup with a spare 5 gallon bucket to auto top off the pots when I have to go away for a few days and they’re drinking a gallon a day. If water with nutrients and HydroGuard will be sitting in a bucket for four or five days, should I put air stones in them?View attachment 2426179
Thanks for introducing yourself and being a compatriot word nerd. I look forward to going over your posts. Looks like you are quite an advanced grower and have tons to teach a noob like me. What strain are the species with the purple trichs? I’ve never come across a reference to them, but they look amazing. To address your question of the humidity levels in the basement, I know what you are thinking about the condensation in the ducting.
I set everything up, but I haven’t connected it to the reservoirs yet. We designed it out of pex, so hooking it up would mean I won’t be able to move the pots anymore and since the plants were so big and bushy, I wanted to wait until I did the major defoliation I posted about above so I could pull them out and get all around them. Now I think it would be fine, but the plants are drinking almost a gallon a day and it seems the ph and EC in the reservoirs change daily requiring a little adjustment to the addition I put in. The pots are seven gallon but actually only held four once set up. Now that they’re full of roots, I suspect that’s down to three or maybe even less. And with all that said, we’ve scheduled a staycation this year and camping season is over for us, so I doubt I’ll be away for more than a night here and there, so I should be able to keep up manually. But if we do decide to go somewhere, I can attach the last few pieces of pex and fill the extra buckets with a good guess and be on my way. I’ll let post it up if I end up doing that.Does thus setup work for you
My parents thought it’d be fun to cross the perfectionist gene with the irresistible need to tinker gene—the results were disastrous. At any rate, I’m loving the hydro setup as it allows a subtle satisfaction for both genes.I set everything up, but I haven’t connected it to the reservoirs yet. Greetings! Not only am I a word nerd, but your experience of keeping the local pharmacy in business resonated deeply with me and my also interesting life. I had been a lead line cook for years and as such, had prided myself on being a bit of a bad ass. I am now a chef and yes indeed I am a bad ass chick. I don't know if I'd call myself an advanced grower, but I long ago lost track of the number of grows I've nurtured to maturity. I think there's a lot of information out there on the internet and a lot of what you refer to as "bro science" dominates the information. I have never encountered GWE, but I will look it up. Even experienced growers know that nature often has a will of it's own and can always surprise you, and hence you never stop learning. Thanks for introducing yourself and being a compatriot word nerd. As far as the venting went, I decided that that long of a horizontal run with a couple turns and then up a two story chimney would be too much for my little four inch fan on top of the condensation issue. I ended up knocking out a window and installing a dryer vent. It faces the front of the house, but we kept it neat and it doesn’t seem too extrusive. Now the venting is only about 2 1/2 feet, so I’m not too concerned about droplets anymore.
My basement stays pretty humid too, but it’s not all that big and my new dehumidifier seems to be keeping up with the challenge. I might have a little trouble getting it down to 50% for late flower, but it is what it is. Should be no problem getting the right conditions for drying though.
Thanks again for the introduction.
Thanks for the encouragement and advice, especially regarding the defoliation. My plants must not be done stretching because they’re still growing like mad, so I’m thinking I may have to get the snips out again to keep the bushiness in check. It’s been 2 weeks 5 days since I flipped them, but I had them in veg for six.Greetings! The purple trich plant is a Mofeta Sangrante from Sticky Fingers Seeds. Translates to Bloody Skunk. I was informed that it was bred by Deep Green Genetics, but I cannot locate the strain on any site of theirs. I got them as a freebie at NECann last year, and didn't expect such a special pheno. I have two more seeds, both non-feminized. I am in the middle of harvesting this indoor run right now. My fingers feel like I've been playing with those shiny, brown fly strips, and my companion the last few days has been the spray bottle of 91% Iso. I did successfully clone all six clone cuttings I made from the Mofeta. I hadn't dabbled in cloning until now, mostly due to the expense of running our grow rooms in the summer, and the amazing outdoor space we have dedicated to my cannagarden for the summer, so I wasn't confident that all six would end up rooting and going into reveg. My first time seriously trying to clone and I decided to start cloning with a plant already in flower, not an ideal way to do it. I wanted to preserve the purple pheno, and the local grow shop has offered me a really decent price for a few clones. So I am well chuffed to have done it and they're vegging out now.
For someone who only recently started using cannabis, and recently started growing, your plants are quite impressive. Don't be afraid to strip those big old fan leaves once the plants get bushy like that, especially the lower leaves. Clearing out the middle of fan leaves to bring more light and air flow into the plant works well. It's a fine balance between stripping away leaves that are just using energy the plant could be putting into more growth or flower development, and then not stripping away so many that the plant suffers from a lack of leaves with which to manufacture energy from the sun/grow light. Listen to your plants, I know that sounds so new-agey, but it's true. I don't necessarily follow any strict schedule with my plants, and because I often grow several different strains at once, with different needs, I have to pay attention to the way they look to determine what they need, and when. A general outline of what is needed and when is necessary and useful, but there must be flexibility and adaptation embedded in that plan. It's like an educated yet instinctual method of growing and we all find our own favorite ways and tricks. The basics always are the most important, light, moisture, temp, nutes. I have never done hydro, the expense of the set-up is not something I am willing to invest in just yet. I have had such great results from soil growing that I don't see a need to try coco, however, someday I'd love to do a good hydro set up.
Enough of my babbling for tonight. Late night makes me type-y and chatty. Nice to meet you!

Those trees you grow look incredible. I didn’t know cannabis grew like that. What kind of yield do you get from them?
Don't worry about replying late--I'm quite sporadic myself with online stuff. Those trees just boggle my mind. I'm not really in a location where I can grow photos, or else just might give one a shot. I'm in some pretty fertile farmland as well and have wondered how well a plant would grow if I just transplanted it straight into the ground. I have a four plant limit here. Getting a pound off a single plant would show the state something, wouldn't it? I am an extreme lightweight when it comes to using weed, so a pound would last me at least five years and probably more like ten. I guess I'm just extra sensitive to it, which is weird because my tolerance for alcohol is really high. Maybe one of the medications I take multiplies the effects of the weed.I apologize for my late reply. I will eventually always answer, just a bit sporadic with time spent online. Those trees grew 8-9 feet tall and yielded an average of a pound a plant. One plant gave us two pounds, so our total was just over 9 lbs. Pretty happy with that result. We started with 10 girls last year and ended up with 8. Wind took out two of them in early flower. It was a bit heartbreaking. We smoke kind of a lot, but we still have a bunch of it, probably a little over two pounds. We don’t sell it to anyone, but do gift certain people some bud.
It’s been chilly here and it won’t stop raining. My girls outside are still pretty small. They’re mostly more sativa leaning strains and love heat. I’m hoping that since spring was a little later this year that fall will be as well. I keep most of my indoor plants in veg for about 8 weeks. Some strains need less, but I like them to really flesh out in veg first. The outdoor ladies are started inside about 2-3 weeks before going in the ground outside. I put them right in our fertile soil. We live in a river valley and are surrounded by farms. Therefore our soil and microclimate is ideal for outdoor growing. I am a lucky bitch with a green thumb. I have veggie gardens and flower gardens all around the house. I’m attempting to grow chickpeas this year for the first time. My roses are amazing this year and I’m finally getting blooms on my hydrangeas. Summer is my time. It’s the best time of the year. Can’t wait to see what this summer brings. I still have six clones going strong indoors and my indoor harvest just yielded a bit under 2 lbs, averaging roughly 4 oz per plant.
Defoliating is key, but there’s a balance between too much and too little that is what I strive for in my grows. Do you top them? I top 2 or sometimes 3 times. I kind of defoliate continuously, every couple days I take off a couple of the oldest lower fan leaves, take a few out of the middle, then perform a dramatic lollipop right before I flip. It’s sort of amazing how drastically people can manipulate this plant, many other types of plants won’t tolerate the LST more severe training that we subject our ladies to all the time. Nature is pretty extraordinary. Have you taken your phone or a jewelers loupe to see if trichs are developing yet?
That plant is exactly what I've been shooting for. What type of training and defoliation did you do to it to get all those bud laden colas like that? My plants are drinking about a gallon a day, so I'm really interested to see how yours fare while you're away.Just changed the water and topped it as full as possible about 3 gallons going to be gone till Sunday c what happens

I've been having some issues with the weather here as well for my little autos outside--rain every afternoon and the average humidity of a rainforest. I can bring them inside when it looks like rain and so far they've only been drenched once. I think the little seedling I have might be a lost cause since it's 11 days old now and almost no growth for the last eight. It's supposed to go from seed to harvest in ten weeks, which I know is a very optimistic data point, but still, if two of those weeks are negated, it seems it's a waste of a growing season for one of four plants. I'm going to plant a seed today to transplant in that pot if the one in there now doesn't pick up quickly, which is kind of a bummer because I only had one of those seeds and I was really hoping to get some of that strain for my friend, who picked it out. Oh well, the OG Kush in the tent is doing really well and I should get a at least a couple ounces of that for her. I get serotonin syndrome very easy and all but the purest indicas send me through the roof, so I won't be trying any of those. (The sample size for my testing on sativa vs. indica is pretty limited, but so far it's been decidedly clear cut on the matter.)
I usually do pretty well growing things myself, but I've mostly given up on gardens and such since there's always a chance I won't be able to tend to them for a few weeks at a time. It's a risk with weed as well, but so far I've been lucky, about 8 months now, so that's a win in my book.
I'm getting a little more confident with defoliation now, but I didn't expect my plants to bush out so much after I did that big defoliation. That was easy because I just removed the big leaves that were blocking air and light. Now, I have a ton of small leaves hindering those things and it's going to take some studying the plants to figure which leaves to remove. I know the importance of maintaining clearance for the buds since I didn't defoliate my last grow and ended up with a lot of very low quality, fluffy stuff. I did top the plants in the tent twice following the mainlining tutorial on Grow Weed Easy, which has been a wealth of information so far, but the early defoliation it called for really stunted the plants in the beginning. I do see some trichs forming on the leaves, but I'm quite certain my plants are still in full-on stretch mode since the hybrid grew two inches last night. I wasn't watching the EC as well as I should have been and I think I slowed their progression through the transition phase by a week or two. They still look healthy though, so I don't think I hurt anything too much except push back the harvest date.
