Not even a full week into flower and things feel pretty explosive. Really is great doing a diary and seeing the last pic to compare all the growth, sometimes it’s hard to tell when you look at them everyday. Lights are now 24” from plant and 90%, I realized they crept up to about 20” away at 80% so I raised the lights and cranked up the power. (That hole in the back middle of the scrog is going to haunt me)

Also seeing nice healthy feeder roots hit the top of the soil now. Don’t know why but I love this part.

Nice to know I’m on the right track then. And yea pictures can be so deceiving at times haha I’ve been creeping your hugel bed grow for awhile, appreciate your input

Good call, might just throw an elastic band and some Saran wrap on it haha I’ve had nightmares of fungus gnats swarming out of that tube. And I agree SIPs are super legit, really happy with growth and low maintenanc.

Gnats? How is that? Your soil loaded and they get into res? I have no issues, but u
I have the covers on (this should eliminate gnats, and lots of beneficial predator mites, nematodes, etc. What part of US are you?

I was just being sarcastic about them coming out of the tube. I’ve seen one gnat flying around in their, so I put DE around the stem opening in the cover and haven’t seen them since. I’m in Canada, so bugs love to over winter in our homes, found a stink bug making his way to the broccoli I have growing yesterday.

1 week into flower.
I noticed one of my main tops got drowned out somehow when I was cleaning up below the net. It’s basically at the trellis height, should I just cut that sucker off? At this point its 5” shorter than the rest of the canopy, I can’t imagine it just popping up. Would appreciate input their if anyone cares too.

Looking good man got a pic of where it’s located? If it’s at the net it’s going to grow some more and if there’s nothing blocking the light it should still turn out nice.

It’s basically in the middle but towards the right corner, I moved stuff around to get some light down there. It’s not looking happy, the one at my middle finger. I’ll have to remove some leaves around there tomorrow I guess if it’s going to have a chance.

Ya I suggest trying that first and give it a couple weeks. I do a heavy defoliation on day 21 but will remove a random leaf here or there if I see it massively blocking a bud site like what you have going on there.

Officially 2 weeks since the flip. So this is what stretch is supposed to be… I did not experience this on my first grow since I was drowning them most of the time.
Pistols coming in, and I threw a trellis on top just incase it’s needed. Taking maybe 3-4 leaves a day that are blocking too much, but I’ll need to take more since humidity is starting to get out of control.

Day 21. Things are starting to get a bit more exciting in the tent. Last Friday I did a pretty decent defoliation because I couldn’t get the RH below 70%, it’s sitting stable around 50% now at 27C. The stretch is definitely done, going to do some reading up on how I could have gotten tighter spacing on the nodes for next time.

Big thanks to @SpiderFarmerLED for the 6 inch fan with temp and humidity controller from the giveaway earlier this month. Just got it all set up and its working great. I think this is really going to help me dry my flower in the tent as well with the humidity controller.

Day 28, nothing too exciting to report. Gave 1 tbsp of bloom fertilizer from the soil company I use and 2tbsp of Gaia green 2-8-4 to both plants and watered them each with 2 litres of water w/ recharge. The bloom fertilizer has a ton of dolomite lime in it which I was concerned about, you could really smell it. But I guess that’s why they recommend 1 tbsp per 7 gallons of media. Other than that I just keep giving 1 gallon of water every other day when the res dries up.
one plant is showing much less frost but is purpling up, I also noticed the purple plant smells like lemon curd. next 4 weeks should be exciting.

Your plants look great! I just came across your post, and I'll be following along the rest of the grow. I did a few runs with a SWICK set-up with mixed results and was thinking about trying an earth box.

I'm also Canadian and have been curios about the Stepwell. It's got to be $100 or more after taxes for a bag of it here in Halifax, same goes for the earth box. I already have a large assortment of amendments from Black Swallow in Ontario, but when I run out I was thinking of trying the Stepwell.

Did you add extra perlite or other aeration to the SS?

Thanks man. Earthbox style planters definitely make for an easy ride. As far as the soil im happy with my purchase for sure. I didn’t add anything to it, it’s a really good light mix, I was impressed with the quality.

End of week 7, probably going another 1.5-2 weeks more. Plant on the left looks pretty far behind but both are coming down at the same time. That said, oddly the lower buds on that plant seem to be frostier and riper than the top colas. pretty happy with results though, feels like I’ve figured it out and I can keep fine tuning from here.
