Yeah I usually start with warm water , write on the paper towel what the seed is , place it then cover them with another squeezed out warm paper towel.

Soak 14 hours, skip paper towel method, plant point up, pencil tip deep in seed starting pellets. Place in starting tray/dome under low light. Dome provides humidity. Once above ground remove dome. Skipping paper towel is less handling and touching of the tap root. Planting point up reduces the amount of bucketheads. Low light prevents stretchy stems and sprouts from damping off as opposed to a dark period that can cause the same.

Heating mats are always better with a thermostat/controller, no matter the intended usage.

I've been germinating in GH Rapid Rooter plugs and they seem to pop quicker than any other method I've used. Plus, once the tap root shows from the bottom of the plug, you place right in soil, coco, hydroton, etc. They are, of course, great for rooting clones, too!

I found misting paper towels worked better for me than trying to soak and squeeze em out. Think I was using them too wet. Have had 100% rate since misting the towels

IMO less handling of the tap root the better. I'm lazy and don't want to transplant numerous times either. Soak, starting discs, roots, final container is now my preferred method. I swore by paper towel as a germination step until recently.

I'm currently using a humidity dome and soil plugs.

I wouldn't use a heating mat without a controller. All you need is heat in the low 70's ... 72F is usually considered ideal. Not much heat. Room temp ... that's all you need.

I've used just about every method for seed germination. My favorite is the old fashion way ... I use a root riot plug and I plant the seed in it. Near 100% success.

Edit: I don't think there's a difference between a rapid rooter plug and a root riot plug. Different brands. Same thing. I think @Bobcat.Branch will say this too ... the tap root is fragile and if you germinate in a paper towel and then handle it to plant it, damage can be done. These plugs make starting a seed nearly fail proof.

I just put seeds in RQS soil plugs yesterday. They're made of peat and coir. The temperature is 72.5F and the humidity is 59.4%.

87 is too hot! try 72f. Myself and others mentioned this earlier in the thread ... do you want to kill your seed?

So you just put seed in them and water them?
Do you need a little pot for them?
Put them under a light?

Yeah I was like holy shit !!! That's not good I just planted them outside today and left on the porch. I moved them into some shade and cooled them down as soon as I realized . I will relocate in the morning . I was like dang it seems awful warm out today . So I just decided to take a soil temp.

Ok to clarify technically I get a tail before I put them in dirt. Then I drop them in , and keep an eye on them . Look for them to push thru surface rest of the way. Set them outside in sun . Usually it's cooler out . This year I waited a month so it's hotter outside than I expected.

I just started planting right in soil. I think i was causing more problems messing around moving that delicate seed around.

They fit perfectly in seed starting trays... Those small wedge looking ones, not the 2-in wider ones. The plugs come pre moistened, but I mix a super weak veg solution and soak them for about 30 minutes and then gently squeeze the excess out of them. I have a dome that I put the smaller seedling trays into, with the heating mat underneath the dome base itself, and I set it to 77° f.

After they sprout and the taproot starts to peek out of the bottom of the rooting plug, I then plant them in soil. They also can go directly into hydroton, Coco-Coir, or whatever you want to put them in. They really don't experience any shock with this process and so far it has worked fantastically.
