My methods are varied.
I am a retired Cook, I travel from Fl to NY
A near proper snow bird.

In Florida I grow only outdoor now.

my soil mix is simple.
Pro mix Bx
About 20% organic materials
Kelp product
Molasses
Gypsum
Lime
And

Symphony Organic Fertilizer w/9% Ca (5-4-3) - 50 lb Bag

Almost identical to Harmony but it comes from the USDA organic egg laying operation at the same NY farm that produces Harmony. Symphony 5-4-3 fertilizer that we sell comes from a family owned and operated egg laying poultry farm in New York. All-purpose for vegetables, fruits, lawn and...

As the NPK

Organic’s need to be fully ripened
I use EWC or Mushroom Compost
That’s easy to get.

I recycle the soil year after year.
The chopped up roots break down and leave tons of microbes ready to colonize the roots.

One thing I do is mix the compost with the amendments then add something for drainage
So it won’t clump in pockets and then mixes easily into the promix.

The gypsum adds the sulfur needed to create those great terps and resins
I keep calcium carbonate powder handy.
I will add it to my water when plants are taking off. Cal is a major building block.

Anything else is added to a EWC Tea which I water with every few weeks.
Things happen much slower in soil and I hate small pots where things can build up fast.

For water I am a real geek

I keep a Large outdoor population of Guppies,
Tadpoles and aquatic greens in a Plastic Tub.
125 gallons. It’s filled with rainwater by nature.
Or topped off with some RO when needed.
Bonus is the mosquitos can’t help themselves
And lay there eggs in there. The fish gobble
them up.

Lots of nature in the yard

I’m growing mainly Sativa down here.

Plants bred for indoor grows don’t do well here. Mass amounts of rain, high humidity,
Temps can be over 100f in the day, 70 at night.

In NY I do both indoors and out.

I bring up clones in early June for the indoor
That I get started and sorted down in Fl
I start seeds ASAP and get plants outside
For the long veg season. But the strain choice
Is different. No long flowering Sativa outside.

With a good head start I can grow some full on Sativa indoors by going into flower as soon as they show sex.

Some random pictures

Those were my plants from seed last summer.

Great to get some ideas on how to tweak my own recipe.
Gypsum is a very interesting thought process for me.
I'm on a mission to build the ultimate organic soil after moving house and rebuilding the gardens with a high organic "herb and veggie" base soil from the local landscaping supply shop.
Coco coir or pea straw, worm castings, cow manure, peat and now gypsum are all included currently.
