Wts good fellow farmers i have made a single DWC setup for one of my plants just to see how it grows compared to my plants i have in soil all i used was a 8ltr thermos water container,3 inch air stone, standard air pump the plant is in a net pot filled with small cubes of rock wool its still only young about 2 weeks into veg from seed I am new to the DWC scene so i need a bit of info e.g whats the best nutes for DWC?, is it possible to use soil nutes?, what temp should the water be?,what level should i have the water? e.g below net pots/above the pots? any info/help will be much appreciated

Is it alright to use rock wool for DWC? or am i best of with some Hydroton clay balls? i think the rock wool is breaking up too much leaving bits in the water

Should the water level be above or below the net pots? will it not drowned the roots if they are underwater? whats the best nutes to use with DWC also im not sure what my ppm is as i do not have a ec/ppm tester im just making sure the ph stays at 5.8 what ppm should i be looking for?

water level differs from grower to grower. If you keep the water level below the pot, the roots will grow towards it/grow into the nutrient solution and may eventually clump, and if you keep the water level above the pot, the roots tend to remain shorter and may still grow into the solution to feed the plant. Your choice.

The best nutes? That's a relative question ... do you mean the cheapest though doable solution, or do you mean two-part/three-part or the best sellers, the most used on this site? I use an economical brand myself, Humboldt, a three-part series (Grow/Micro/Bloom) with added CalMag.

ppm range: "every element in a multi-element solution has a different conductivity factor in these approximate measurements. Pure water will not conduct electrical current, but as elemental salts/metals are added, electrical conductivity increases proportionately. Simple electronic meters measure this value and interpret it as total dissolved solids (TDS). Nutrient solutions used to grow marijuana generally range between 500 and 2000 parts per million (PPM). If the solution concentration is to high, the internal osmotic systems can reverse and actually dehydrate the plant. For general purpose, try to maintain a moderate value of approximately 800 to 1200 PPM. Nutrient solution concentration levels are affected by nutrient absorption by roots and by water evaporation. The solution weakens as plants use nutrients, but water also evaporates from the solution, which increases the nutrient concentration. Adjust the concentration of the solution by adding fertilizer or diluting with more water." (taken from ).

Hope this helps.

Im running a single DWC system as well. Pretty soon I will have 2 buckets going. Not sure what I will use for nutes yet. Looks good though. I am stoked about growth!

Thats sweet.. Im also doing DWC with totes and drilled holes in the top and put net cups not the cheap ones heavy duty.. I have 2 plants going from bag seed and god damn.. The roots, the stem healty.. I had a prob when I started to give them nutes I wasnt giving them the right amount way off... They turned a yellowish green once i got them going..Its easy I keep it filled i change my nutes once every wed... I use fox farm hydro grow big and there other products.. Temps? I have a heater in mine but i dont have an exact temp witch i really really should witch I will look into tomorrow.. I would also like to know what the temp should be.. Good luck..

Week 1 ended yesterday for me. Plant is looking great! Changed out the water and sprayed down the hydroton last night. I only saw 1 root sticking out from the side but it was about 8" long. Where are you guys running your water level? I started it above the bottom of the net pot so the clone didnt have to try so hard and now it is at the bottom of the net pot.

Watch the roots grow like crazy..Keep it topped off with water bc u dont want mold setting in on the roots..so keep it topped off with PH water and change the rezi once a week bc its so small and the nutes would run out in 2 weeks..

I will be using all fox farm nutes and added some diff nutes..

Looking good too man..

In my experience. I ran dwc in 5 gallon buckets withe 6 in. netpots, along with 6 in. rockwool cubes filling in with hydroton. I kept the water level at least a quarter the way up the pot to keep the roots from clumping up just make sure there is plenty of o2 available. As you get over 1 month into flowering the plants will start consuming a shitload of water in a short amount of time. It is important to totally change it out weekly and top off in between. I just used distilled water to top off with no nutes added being I was changing it weekly.
