Growing outdoors in Vegas is going to be challenging this whole upcoming week is suppose to be over 100 degrees . Dose anyone have any tips for me so my pots don’t get too hot and cause root damage . Thanks
Keep a catch pan under the pots and keep water in them. It will help. We too in sunny so cal are getting temps near 100 this week. My large plants take it well but my small ones and seedlings dry out fast.Growing outdoors in Vegas is going to be challenging this whole upcoming week is suppose to be over 100 degrees . Thanks for the tip about the bigger pots I’m going to try to do that , and some with the water catcher and leaving water in it . But idk about that sun man the Las Vegas sun ain’t no joke I’m scared it’ll eat these babes alive if I put them out there. I can stand in one spot and start sweating two minutes later ( no joke ) I’ll keep updates up when I get home today .Growing without nutes and they look pretty well fed! What kind of soil is it that youre using?
Some tips I know that helped me outdoors is keep the roots COOL. How to do this is entirely up to you and theres many approaches one can take.
You could take your pots and put them inside another pot which is larger and has room extra room between the two pots.
I add mulch on top of my soil, keeps the moisture in and the roots much cooler than the mulch on top. I go as simple as possible and use grass cuttings, or out of my field ill use alfalfa cuttings. Green mulch is great for vegetative growth. Later Ill switch to dried up leaves and such during flowering.
Once those girls grow a decent amount of foliage and the roots are grown and staying cool you can even remove the tarp you have covering them. But I would definitely want to be confident they are strong enough for the full sun. With less foliage and lots of heat the plant cannot transpire as much as it needs to which will lead to heat stress. Ive had that happen many times where pruning too much off a plant + lots of sun puts the plant into heat stress and various places on the leaves become dry, crispy and burnt.
Yeah we are over 100 this week so it’s pretty blazing , I see your using pea moss pots so the water can just take the moister through the it upwards , right? I’ve never used those type of pots just your good old classic black plastic pots , ( witch may be another reason why they get hot) because my pots get pretty warm I can wrap my hand around the pot and it feels like a warm ass plate out the microwave . Thanks for the information though every little thing truly dose help me . Oh and what are your guy’s thoughts about this pesticide and fungicide have you ever used it ? I haven’t but it was at Lowe’s so I grabbed it (it was kinda cheap compared to the other “organic” ones )Keep a catch pan under the pots and keep water in them. It will help. These are sweet pepper seeds but same concept.

If I didn't add water to the pans before work they'd be dry and dead by the time I got home.
I love the peat pots. Get 'em at the 99 Cent store. 2 dozen of the 2" and 16 of the 3". Yup, wicks the water keeping the seeds/seedlings moist. Transplanting is a breeze, just put into soil. I do tear off the top but it really doesn't matter just looks better. I can't keep them in constant water but while I'm away it keeps them alive.Yeah we are over 100 this week so it’s pretty blazing , I see your using pea moss pots so the water can just take the moister through the it upwards , right? Really ? How do you keep your plants bug free thenI love the peat pots. Get 'em at the 99 Cent store. 2 dozen of the 2" and 16 of the 3". Yup, wicks the water keeping the seeds/seedlings moist. I've never used that stuff, have no idea. I don't use any insecticides.
The only insect problems I seem to get are snails/slugs eating seedlings and cabbage moth larvae in the fall. The little green worms are easy to see and remove by hand. Now on my peas and cucumbers I have issues with powdery mildew and scales on citrus and use neem oil. I'm very careful what I put in the garden and won't use anything I haven't researched.Really ? Yeah I tried to do some research on the big time exterminator but I couldn’t find much , not many reviews either but the ones I read seemed good so I’m just praying it doesn’t make my buds smell/taste weird (if my plants decide to fucking grow )The only insect problems I seem to get are snails/slugs eating seedlings and cabbage moth larvae in the fall. Patience. Seriously. Good job on checking the soil for moisture before watering. Keep an eye on them tomorrow. I've been having to water some plants twice a day in this heat but I always check first. They're growing, just takes time.Okay I may be overthinking it but my plants are definitely stunted there a month and yet they look the same , I’m getting worried because I don’t want to be farming plants that aren’t actually growing . Dose anybody have any tips?
Alright thanks manPatience. Seriously. Good job on checking the soil for moisture before watering. Keep an eye on them tomorrow. I've been having to water some plants twice a day in this heat but I always check first. They're growing, just takes time.
We've been getting mid 90's this past week and no issues but most of mine are in 4-5 gal pots. Might want to transplant into bigger pots soon. I've found most donut shops will sell their used buckets for a buck. They're food grade and make great pots. Just drill a few holes in the bottom and being white they won't absorb as much heat. Also mulch heavy.Alright thanks manI’m just worried if they have root problems . Because sometimes I come and feel the pots and there pretty warm .
Thanks for the tip man , it’s been over 100 this past week I hope it cools down next week because this heat wave has been stupid hot , 110 in the middle of the day. Bur I gave them a big ass tub to sit in with some cool water hopefully making them cooler . Oh and do they make pea moss pots any bigger then 3 inc ?We've been getting mid 90's this past week and no issues but most of mine are in 4-5 gal pots. Might want to transplant into bigger pots soon.
