im using a geo fabric that we use to keep dirt out of drain rock when we install perforated drain lines. it the same material as smart pots except i have a 100' x 8' roll on hand haha. i used it to make the bottom of an elevated soil bed and so far the bed is kickin ass.

I have 45 gal smart pots coming out of my ass. Guess you could say I'm a smart ass. I think they dry out too fast to use outdoors, would rather do beds. Hit me up if you want some pots!

Really like smart pots.
Can be made with landscape cloth for indoor and outdoor.
Seems to me plants grow much more stout than in regular pots.
As long as you keep up on the watering and they don't get drought stretch (They just dry out a little quicker out here than the Oregon where they ?first? got really popular for tree growers.
It's all in the air prune.

Thanks, BC, I'll have to check that out as landscape fabric isn't the most sturdy, but good enough for less than 10gal conts.

If you are going to be doing a lot of transplanting to different sized containers, these have gotten good reviews as being a little easier to unpot.

Would love some pm me with how to get ahold of you....
Worked really well for us last year, must water daily anyway so wtf...

must water daily anyway
That's why they aren't as popular out here. Depending on size of plant and pot, I've heard people having to water them twice daily in our arid landscape. That's just too much work for your average grower :) Ofcourse, I'd be putting the ladies on an IV at that point.

I love them... easy to reuse, encourages large root mass=more fruit, excellent breathability, keeps the media in the pot, yet to encounter a rootbound plant, I punch holes in the top 2in. and LST in'm.

Agreed, ladies seem to stay short n stout compared to other pots i've tried. I like that i'm able to grow larger plants in smaller pots compared to say plastic, which'll show all kinds of wacky deficiencies once the roots start to circle. Peace SSP

I still love these RootMaker 1 gal square pots.. I have pulled 6 oz from one plant.. PurpleWreck in my 600watt closet.. 36 inches x 28 inches.. 2 to 3 plants at different stages.

this way Dirt last me forever and so do Nutes.. Still on the first bottle of Age Old.
I mix up moonshine mix minus the dry Nutes. It was the cheapest way with the best results.
Cant really over water with these but you do have to water every day.

Had 3 gals and they were just too large for what i do.. if i had multiple 1000s i would have 5 gal or 3 if i was wanting to grow some massive plants.

Best to order online...

the Big Tomato Bro's told me they no longer make them... since they didnt have them instock. lol fuck that place...

I'm trying the new square smart pot now(for 5 gal indoors)...it folds up inside instead of smooth square walls..which is the only thing I didn't like so far.

Are they like the ones i posted or are they the ones you assemble?

I found the square pots work better for me.. you can stack them closer and they dont tip over as easy. I use the small pots any way so if the plant gets too tall it could become top heavy and tip over causing havoc.

I didn't see square ones in this style.

Lol the only one you didn't like is the only one I tried! I got it to fit on a 5 gallon bucket, but saw that it went too far down in it. I'm using the 5 gallon buckets for an RDWC, and so I ended up with 8" netpot bucket lids.

All about roots organics pots. I feel root tips lock into the fabric easier forcing new growth to branch out. Smart pots are cool but the handles are annoying and unnecessary, a bit more $ too.

I like the root builder 2's (pictured couple posts above) but if u dont have a good control on fungus gnats than be well aware your placing a perfect farm for them to reproduce in ur rooms. Talk about easy accesZ.

I picked up 4x8 sheets of weed blocker from the dollar store for a dollar, been making 1.5 and 3.5 pots myself, we shall see. Previously I was just lining the pots with the weedblocker, which has worked great but Id like a lil more open area on the sides for the roots

I used four foot high "hog wire" in a five foot circle lined with a road fabric an underground contractor had left over. The fabric has 1" holes. Some soil leaked out but became stable. Had roots everywhere in the pot.

those are my black panther guard cats. I also have wooden troughs two feet deep four feet across and on the slope a fence with the same road fabric to hold the soil in( in background of photo)

that's the craze these days. Landscape cloth, then cage em in with the same wire game fence works..

Hey! That's what I did this year when I ran out of room. Got a yard of organic topsoil, some contractor-grade landscape cloth, a little hardware cloth and some electrical conduit pipe. Had Dave cut down the pipe and the hardware cloth, I pounded in the pipes to make a frame, he helped me wrap them in the hardware cloth, then I lined with the landscaping fabric, et voila--cheap SmartPots. I probably should have lined the bottom with hardware cloth, but I didn't.

Those are beautiful cats. I have a black boy with amber eyes. He and his gray tabby sister are going nucking FUTS right now, tearin' it up in the house. I need a kitteh cam.

Hickory and Dickory. They follow me everywhere and love the garden.

We've named our brother and sister William Wallace and Boudica. :)
