Stacking Change Question

I have some mothers that I took clones from and the plant start off as a 2 nodes side by side now it's changed to a zig zag node stack. If you understand what I mean. The plant hasn't been flipped ever. It's always been in veg and I'm wondering because I want to produce small bushes then flower them out and I think I'll get less splits and tops with the node spacing change happening.
