We are a commercial company in the Netherlands and want to promote our seed projects, it is a natural thing to do.
Therefore we participate in various Cups in order to see how good our product is compared to the current competition.
Since we were successful, we shared those results with the public but are not hyping our strain in an unnecessary way.

The actual hype is created by threads like this one.

We are currently working on a BX as well as a fem version of the StarBud.

For the Starbud BX we initially did an out cross to our exceptional Blueberry daddy from DJ Short.

Of course, selecting from only 10 seeds limits your choices automatically, compared to selecting from 100 or even 1000 seeds, but rest assured we will only release the seed lines, when we are completely satisfied and sure that you will find the real deal phenos.

Yes, compared to other breeders who are selling their seeds on hype alone, we are testing our products before we release them. Who says we will be cheap?

And SkyHi please get your facts straight, since NO, we did not receive any clones from the midwest but quite a few unlabeled seeds in which we found the clone.

SkyHi (or JJ), do us a favour and tell us the real (and we mean the really real) linage of the Chem Dawg!? Will you?

Im sorry i dont know the real lineage of Chemdawg, although im not Calling my self a "real" breeder or im a making money or winning awards with it either...Oh and standing up for your self is admirable, the condescending tone in which you chose to do it is, well, shameful,I hope this isnt a reflection of your customer service....

U shared result with the public therefor u are creating the hype. The public can check cups result by them self. I seriously doubt this kind of thread creat hype, specialy when i check the poll result.

U should be aware that a lot of medical grower don't have the space and knowledge to angle a 100 plants grow specialy to look for one pheno when u're not a breeder.

If it's the clone that have won the titles, it's not the strain that u will creat out of it, yet. So lets see...

By the way nice pic! That bud look good for sure.

Our condescending tone...lol...come on...this is getting really boring SkyHi. You got anything else you wanna add? If not, please stay out of this thread. Easy one.

We made the cup results public! Right! So what? Thats what you call creating hype?

How do you explain this then:

If you check the views of the thread in our own forum, where we announced our recent award at the Cannabis Champions Cup in Barcelona you can see that this thread has "only" 214 views in a 9 day period whereas this thread here in the Breeder Lab created by yourself has close to 2000 views in only 6 days.

Concerning your statement about legal medical growers:

One might be really lucky and find that one out of 10000 plant in a ten pack.

But in general, a bigger group of plants to select from is always better. Thats just a fact you can´t change.

Again, you will find really good phenos out of ten seeds but might find a couple of even better phenos when you select from bigger numbers.

We think that legal medical marijuana growers have a really good starting point to find a keeper plant from seed, since they can grow them to their full potential.

Please be aware that worldwide there are many people in medical need of THC products who are not legal at all.

Besides this, there are many recreational as well as commercial growers worldwide, who are far from being legal but still grow out large numbers.

And, yes you are right, wait & see for yourself is currently the best option for anybody interested in the StarBud.

What's your point? Mr Haze has reported a kushy, fuel taste. What other strains do you know that fit that description? Chemdawg is the only one that I know of.

Quick question. You are releasing Starbud on 420? Is that pretested just by you? Or are you gonna let the farmers pretest your 420 drop?

My point? To put it in your words, just raising questions and looking for answers. Can you tell me the 100% real linage of Chem Dawg JJ??

I value Mr Haze´s opinion very much but don´t exactly share it in this case.
StarBud is imo more fruity, skunky...maybe a bit kushy...but not comparable to any OG, SFV or Diesel...more of a subtle sweetness and not a fuel taste.

We do have a couple of Kush clones from Cali in our stable which definitely would fit this "kushy, fuely" description rather than the StarBud.

And we cant compare it to the ChemDawg, yet.

Concerning the drop on 420:

Dont worry JJ, everything we release will be pre tested by us and if we are not 100% satisfied with the results we get, it won´t be released. Easy. We are currently still busy with the testing phase. Expect an update & pics soon.

So you entered a clone only strain that you didn't even make yourself into the cup? That's like me entering the Chemdawg into the cup.

Why didn't you incross the Starbud to the seeds you found them in?

I think your outcross to the Blueberry won't truely represent your Starbud clone and just make a new kind of strain that represents both strains. Your fem line might represent the Starbud clone better or incrossing to the seeds you found them in.

You know nobody knows the real lineage of the Chem. Are you suggesting that you have something pre Chem Dawg? What's your point? Have you ever seen the real Chem Dawg?

Ask the Cali Connection or various other companies what they entered in the Cup!

Nope, that would not be the same, since you did not select the ChemDawg yourself, did you!?
The Starbud belongs to our breeding stock and we are currently the only ones working with it worldwide.

Why we did not incross to the seed line we found the Starbud in? Because there was lots of variation to be found.

Of course the initially done outcross to the blueberry daddy makes a new kind of strain, representing both strains. We are actually thinking about releasing it as "StarBerry".

From there on we are bx´ing 3 more times to the StarBud clone.

As does nobody when it comes to the StarBud. If we knew what it is, we would let everybody know. But we don´t!

Pre Chem Dawg? Nope...I told you before & will repeat myself one more time: we have not worked or sampled any real Chem Dawg, yet.

Hey JJ-NYC,

It is hard for me to comment this, since here in Holland Chem~ genetics are pretty rare and I am honestly not familiar with them.
The only time I sampled a so called "Chemdog" bud was from the "Greenhouse" crew, which was unfortunately not very good nor comparable to our "Starbud" (and probably any real Chemdog).

This is also the first time I hear the statement that some "people" think Starbud is a Chemdog creation. Just curious, are those "people" defined by High Times?

Of course you never know, but I do not see a link in our case.

Anyways, if you will be in Amsterdam in the future we will have a "Starbud" sample for you to check out.

Hortilab - what was the strain that was accidentally pollinated to create the starbud? would you consider the starbud and unstable strain on it's own? is that why you are trying to preserve it by out crossing it?

I believe, you don't know what the Starbud is made of. If you don't know what the Chemdawg is, then you don't know if your Starbud has Chemdawg in it. We might not know what the Chemdawg is made of. But we do know when some strain has Chemdawg in it just like the Haze.It has those telltale signs in taste, smell, and high.

@ JJ I think hes trying to play gotcha, becuase he doesn't know the lineage of his "starbud", hes trying to bring you down to his level by simply implying you dont know the lineage of your chemdawg.. I think its pretty much apples and oranges.

@ Horti, you have to see where we are all comming from here. Your story about the strain has more holes in it than a piece of swiss cheese. You give details where they dont matter,(large shipping container) and leave them out when they do matter(what plants where being grown in the shipping container, and what strains caused the accidental male pollination). To me it sounds like you were hopping no one would pick apart the story. Also, Id think you would have @ least talked to the midwest grower to see what types of strains he was working with b4 they were sourced. You have to understand that ppl have legitimate questions and concerns about the strain, and either you really dont know, or you dont really care to know. JJ went to the ends of the earth trying to find out the lineage of chem.
We have a large amount of farmers from the midwest, none of which have ever heard of the starbud. I hate to sound like debbie downer, I just dont believe your story. Hey what ever happened to the Jan release of the fem starbud?? Why the delay? Can you at least acknowledge that you MAY be working with the stardawg, or chem, and dont even know it??? Im just perplexed by your comments man.

Well after reading ur post, i can tell it's a commercial strategy u have used to make ur work famous. It's obvious, the clone only strain, the cups trophee, the unknow lineage those are good point when u want to creat a hype around a mystery killer strain that don't even exist in seed form yet.

However i know u won't agree and i understand why.

Thats what happens with Chemodog, OG kush and Bubba etc...Best wait to get the closest from the clone are s1 IMO or the clone lol....hey by the way if ur looking for testers i will be more than happy to help.

ill defintly pick up a pack or two of starbud to compare as ive been smoking and growing stardawg and have lots of expeirience with her, if there are any similarities ill be the first to report on it.you can count on that..my only question to hortilab is why enter all these contests when you dont even have a fully tested seed line to release with these contests? also if your winning these events with your starbud mom, how does that mean that the starbud seedline is the same thing that is winning the cups?

Let the beans do the talking! I hate the secrecy shit, people want to know what there growing nowadays, and when there is complete vagueness in part of the breeder it makes me not interested in there product. But when the seeds do come out and people grow and share there results we will all know for sure whats what with this "Starbud".

Keenstylie, personally I have been around online since the old OG days in 2000, ya know? Of course we do understand that ppl have legitimate questions and concerns about a new strain. Do you really think I am so naive to think that no one would try to pick the story apart? I can only tell you the details of the story we know and leave those out which we don´t. And no I have never talked to that mid west grower personally. The part I left out is that we provided inspiration on the shipping container design & in return received a bunch of seeds worth growing without any additional info quite some time later.

keenstylie said:

Nobody has heard of the StarBud in the Midwest since we created the name only after sampling the final product. Literally the buds sparkle like stars and are so potent that you almost see stars after smoking. Easy. Honestly I couldn´t care less if you believe the story or not, I thought you don´t care, since it sucks anyways??

I already told you that we are a commercial company and naturally would like to promote but not necessarily hype our product. The hype is not created by us. Wait & see for yourself is the only thing I can recommend if you are interested in the StarBud.

Welcome to the last round for us in this thread. Everything that needs to be said from our side has been posted.

Your first question was already answered in this thread: unfortunately we don´t know what strains were involved!

The seeds we selected the StarBud from had lots of variety. The clone itself is very consistent and the BX´ed seeds we will release sometime in the future will be stable, or you won´t see em at all. We don´t play.

BreederBrad2 said:

Hey BreederBrad2, why could we have entered these contests?
Let me tell you: Because we wanted to get our name out, see how our work in progress breeding stock can compete as well as personal fun and to put some heat on our competition.
Your name suggests you are a Breeder so you should be aware that breeding is a long term process as well as about the different ways of creating a stable seedline. In this case we opted for a multiple BX. Besides that I think I dont need to explain why the fem version will be very similar if not the same or better.

Glad you enjoyed the debate! We are done with it now since everything that needs to be said from our side has been said already.

Nonetheless we would love to see some closeups of the Stardawg! If anybody has some feel free to post them in this thread.

This is how the StarBud looks like:
