Is swazzing worth it. I think do alot of folks have kinda put me down for my swazzing in the end we will see if it worth it. Bigger nug and tight nug with better traits. Anyway have fun all..

So I tried this on one of three silver shining hazes. The problem I saw with it was when the plant went into senescence there wasn't enough leaves to properly photosynthesize. But also I wasn't giving enough nitrogen early in flower so could be something I did wrong. But the buds seem to be more dense.

The nutes I run have everything in them it's a 3 part mix. I only add shine at the end to make nugs dense as shit and improve terps and tri's.. Going to flush one plant with a different liquid and see what we get.

I've semi-schwazzed for years I guess (without knowing the actual term). But, I was mainly motivated by allowing light to be available to lower bud sites, and didn't get super drastic with it. Now that I know there's an actual and proper technique for it, I'll give this a go moving forward. The 1st and 20th day of flowering is thing I'm eager to adhere to, as before I just thinned out my plants as needed, but never really past probably the 4th week of flowering.

Always learning!

Oh man defoliate like a mfer!!!
I like my ladies naked when going into flower, then again after the big stretch.
But a grower has to do what they is comfortable with.

Yep.

Schwazzing, a pruning technique for cannabis plants

Discover the pruning method Schwazzing which involves removing many fan leaves to allow a better light penetration and better yields.

I was always under the impression that removing more than 10% of the leaves at one time can cause stress. Enough to cause them to herm. I also believe in photosynthesis where the leaves absorb light for the roots.

That is not my experience, I have been defoliating consistently and heavily for decades.
But it is also strain/variety dependent. Bushy Indicas get a heavy hand. Sativas usually at little lighter.

I think timing has a lot to do with my success. A week or 2 before sending to flower, enough time for vigorous growth to begin.
About day 21 with lights at 12/12, just after the stretch ends, growth tends to slow at this point as the plant changes focus from growth to building flower sites.
Then about 2 weeks before harvest if needed to harden lower and interior nugs. This is to late for hermies to from and heavy stress at this point encourages the plant to produce trichomes. Trichomes job is to collect and protect, collect pollen...hopefully there is none available, and to protect the calyxes from damage. The plant thinks she is dying and will do everything it can to procreate....but again timing is everything I think.
Sorry for the long post.
