I've had a pile in the back corner of my garden that I pile all my grass clippings, tree leaves, garden scraps. small sticks, cardboard, etc. Its abuot 3 years old now and is mostly worm castings, It was turned over each fall by my son. Last year I had volunteer tomato plants growing out of it and got almost 50lbs of heirloom mule train tomatoes. Each weighed like 2-3 lbs. Monster tomatoes.
I'd love to use it inside but am scared to death of bringing something in and throwing off the inside ecosystem I have going. My two 15-gallon SIP boxes are full of very lively soil with worms, beetles, and other crawlies.
My compost has never heated up except on top when I add my grass clippings and is a cold compost.
Think its safe to make tea out of it for inside my house? I just gave my plants some ground up malted corn/barley, so there are plenty of enzymes ready in the soil to munch the tea microbes.
